The Director is also responsible for leading a high-impact, campus wide technology transformation project in the communications function. This role is not only a technology role; it is a strategic role. The Director of Communications Technologies will be responsible for implementing a number of ambitious updates to Stanford’s web infrastructure and for developing solutions that support strategic realignment within University Communications.
As Director of Communications Technologies, you would be responsible for:

  • Collaborating with leadership to set strategy and enhance Stanford’s core communications channels.
  • Leading implementation of a new solutions stack to support new features and experiences, with particular emphasis on audience-centric personalization and mobile experiences.
  • Operating effectively in a multidisciplinary leadership team.
The Director of Communications Technologies reports to the Assistant Vice President for Digital Strategy and has significant interaction with UComm and External Relations leadership.

  • Evaluate and assess metrics and program effectiveness; review trends and monitor proactively.
  • Lead, hire, coach, and evaluate performance of staff, including a team of three FTE.
  • Identify, evaluate, and retain outside consultants as appropriate to support initiatives. Ensure high performance and accountability from these vendors while remaining on budget.
To Be Successful In This Position, You Will Bring
  • Detailed understanding of relevant business and technical knowledge. This includes familiarity with technologies such as JavaScript, HTML, HTML5, and CSS. Additionally, knowledge of WordPress, Drupal, and/or DXP platforms such as Squiz required.
  • Exceptional relationship management skills, consensus building skills, and ability to establish effective working relationships in a diverse environment.
  • Proven ability to develop a vision for strategic needs and to develop appropriate plans to meet these needs.
  • Ability to resolve issues quickly and make decisions that meet university objectives in a collaborative culture.
  • Ability to translate strategic direction from multidisciplinary leaders and translate these into plans for a technical implementation.
  • Must be able to engage productively and effectively with leadership including the Vice President for University Communications and the Chief Information Officer for External Relations and for University IT.
  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
