As part of an agile, start-up environment, the Director will need to be able to adapt IT strategy to evolving needs and be hands-on as needed. The successful candidate will manage and leverage resources to ensure seamless processes for IT matters including desktop support, cybersecurity, enterprise architecture, and R&D tools. The role is based in South San Francisco (on-site or hybrid) and reports to the Vice President, Finance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop, implement and execute IT strategy, operations and infrastructure for the company, including developing a roadmap to help prepare and scale the company for future growth.
  • Be a technical partner to R&D and corporate teams to ensure IT needs are met in a regulatory-compliant way.
  • As the company grows, to help build and develop a talented internal IT team.
  • Responsible for managing IT vendors, external consultants and the overall IT budget.
  • Keep up to date and help adopt industry best practices across all IT areas – privacy, security, infrastructure, operations, controls – in a scale-appropriate manner.
  • Serve as triage for HI-Bio employees to resolve IT needs, and manage day-to-day operations related to IT – including but not limited to management of a help-desk and establishing interfaces for technical support needs.
  • Select and oversee implementation of new tools to aid efficiency for research and lab teams, clinical teams, and business teams
  • Responsible for IT contingency planning to ensure business continuity and avoid disruptions.
  • Core member of the HI-Bio Infrastructure team, and responsible for evolving IT governance and internal controls, and facilitate trade-offs when required (ie. Overall budget, capacity to implement etc.)
  • Own, develop and maintain privacy and cybersecurity strategy and policies, including tools to be utilized throughout the enterprise.
  • Lead implementation of IT systems to deliver on the needs of the research, clinical and G&A functions, working closely with multiple cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Serve as point of contact for IT for financial audit and/or legal compliance requirements.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Expertise in investigating, negotiating, and selecting outside services and computer software; strong external management skills with vendors, consultants and partners.
  • Significant experience with cloud-native platforms and AWS architecture.
  • Hands-on, proactive, and systematic approach to building and maintaining IT systems in a biotech startup environment.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or any other related fields.
  • 8+ years of experience building and managing IT teams, managing external relationships with vendors and external consultants, and supporting data storage and business management platforms.
  • Extensive IT implementation and management experience with a biotech/pharma to meet rapidly growing R&D (research and clinical programs) and G&A needs in a compliant way.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work effectively across teams of different functional backgrounds including R&D and G&A; strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Track record of delivering in a fast-paced and dynamic environment while being resourceful and efficient. Desire to roll up sleeves day-to-day.
  • Demonstrated experience designing solutions for rising technical challenges including cybersecurity and IT policy development.
