DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Health Department provides traditional public health services and seeks to use innovative methods to meet the community's present and future needs. Our mission is to work in partnership with the community to promote and protect the health and social well-being of all Houstonians. HHD is now the first health department in Texas and the second in a large U.S. city to earn national accreditation.
The Houston Health Department is currently searching for an energetic and skilled candidate to fill the Customer Service Clerk position to perform the following duties:
- Performs basic research and gathers necessary information to resolve routine customer
- Refers non-routine problems to supervisor.
- Communicates findings to customers.
- Receives and verifies completeness and accuracy of requests from customers; processes
- Performs data entry activities to update customer records within authorized limits.
- Provides information about City services, ordinances, policies, procedures and pricing.
- May act as a backup to a customer service section and an administrative support section.
- May process work orders/requests and make changes to update customer account
- May gather or collect information to generate reports, activity logs, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The position is physically comfortable most of the time with occasional periods of stooping, bending and /or light lifting of materials of up to 10 pounds.
MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Six (6) months of clerical/customer service experience are required.
MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
None.
- Excellent written, oral, presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple, diverse assignments
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs and other basic email and web software
- Bilingual (English/Spanish), the ability to speak, read, and write fluently in English and Spanish

Pay Grade 10
SALARY INFORMATION
GENERAL FUNDED
Grant positions are dependent upon continued available funds. If funding is no longer available, employee may be laid off or transferred. Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
