How You’ll Make a Difference
Navigate the waters of a growing and resilient industry. Woodard & Curran seeks a highly motivated and experienced National Business Development Leader (NBDL) to lead our private sector business development team. You will identify growth opportunities in alignment with executing the company’s vision and strategic plan while leading and partnering in decision-making that sustains organizational change. You will leverage current partnerships and develop new strategic relationships, ensuring sales, market position, and client satisfaction goals are achieved. This is a Business Development leadership position that requires expertise in sales within the water and environmental markets in the private sector. In doing so, you will support the execution of a market-led approach based on leveraging the full power of Woodard & Curran talent to create value for our clients. You will promote organizational values and commitment to the development of employees as leaders throughout Woodard & Curran.
What You Will Be Doing at Woodard & Curran
Business Development:
- Manage business development budgets to achieve a targeted cost of sales.
- Champion the company's commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility integrating ESG principles into business development strategies and client engagements.
- Stay updated on market trends, industry developments, and regulatory changes affecting the private sector water and environmental landscape to identify new business opportunities and guide decision-making.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and networking forums to enhance brand visibility, expand networks, and explore collaboration opportunities.
- Develop go-to-market strategies that provide differentiated solutions leveraging the expertise of Woodard & Curran and train the business development team in selling those strategies.
- Cultivate strategic partnerships and relationships with key stakeholders in the private sector, including industry leaders, potential clients, and government entities, to drive business growth and enhance market position.
- Achieve sales targets, revenue growth, and profitability goals for the private sector through effective leadership and management of the business development team.
- Maintain a reliable pipeline of opportunities with private sector clients and communicate anticipated resource needs with Water and Environment businesses.
- Lead the development and implementation of strategic market, and client plans that leverage the company's strengths and unique offerings in the private sector.
Collaboration:
- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and client-centricity within the business development team to deliver exceptional results and exceed client expectations.
- The NDBL will partner/collaborate with the Water and Environment Business Leaders and Practice teams to achieve the annual business plan and to drive results across Consulting.
- Collaborate with Marketing Leadership to achieve branding, positioning, and process consistency goals. Develop marketing materials and campaigns that highlight our environmental and water expertise and offerings. Leverage opportunity assessments to inform target strategies.
- Collaborate with senior executives and practice leaders to align business development efforts with the company's overall vision, goals, and growth strategies.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on the progress, performance, and outcomes of business development initiatives in the private sector.
Leadership:
- Develop and execute a comprehensive business development strategy for private sector clients aligned with the company's objectives and vision.
- The list of duties is not intended to be all-inclusive, and other duties may be assigned as needed.
- Led and supervised the business development team and supported the career development of the business development staff.
Skills & Experience:
- Project/process management – the ability to prioritize and direct objectives and tactics are necessary to achieve organizational goals. A strong process and systems mindset is important.
- Proven success in developing and executing client growth strategies for environmental services aligned with company objectives.
- Demonstrates empathy and humility, seeking ways to grow and be challenged.
- Holds self and others accountable to meet commitments.
- Demonstrated leadership within the consulting industry, specifically in client development and sales systems related to environmental services in the private sector.
- Demonstrated ability to build high-performance teams with strong morale and sustainability.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence internally and externally
- Possesses a client service mindset and ability to build a deep understanding of client needs and decision-making structures in the environmental field.
- Judgment/decision-making skills – analytic and decisive decision-maker with the ability to assess risk trade-offs and prioritize and communicate objectives and tactics necessary to achieve organizational goals.
- Demonstrates honesty, authenticity, and transparency to instill trust
- Experience driving results in planning sales strategies, executing those strategies, and achieving sales targets for private sector services.
- Effectively communicates a vision, acting as a change agent while helping others change.
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience leading teams to achieve market success and company business development goals in the environmental sector.
- Applies an equity lens and fosters an equitable and inclusive workplace where differences are valued and leveraged.
- Demonstrates collaboration and influence in working across businesses & corporate functions to meet company and client objectives.
- Leadership skills –inspire others to follow; evidence of making tough decisions, working under pressure, courage to make needed changes, and change management experience highly desired.
