Sompo International Holdings Ltd. (Sompo International) is seeking an Vice President, Underwriting and Product Technical Manager. This position can be located in the following Sompo Offices:
- Los Angeles, CA
- New York City
- Chicago, IL
- Boston, MA
The Underwriting and Product Technical Manager will report to the Vice President, Head of Technical Managers in the US and will handle referral business for all lines of business, develop underwriting strategies and guidelines, participate in special projects and provide subject matter expertise for the business.
Job Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with various functional areas across the organization to include Legal, Underwriting, Claims, Actuarial, Audit and Regulatory Compliance
- Educate and reinforce Underwriting strategy and guidelines to applicable team/s
- Work with RC to establish strategies and guidance
- Consult & coordinate with Underwriting, Actuarial, IT and Customer Service to elicit decision making
- Identify process/service improvement opportunities on a continuous basis
- Establish exposure identification, risk assessment, risk response, controls and monitoring of the standard LoB
- Provide product knowledge to Underwriting, Operations, IT, and other functional areas across the organization as needed
- Handle complex queries and referrals within delegated authority
- Subject Matter Expert on related to special projects and new processing system initiatives
- Subject Matter Expert and support for Underwriting team/s
- Review and implement legislative, regulatory, and other mandated changes
- Work collaboratively with Underwriters and Legal when drafting manuscript endorsements
- Participate and provides feedback for CAT modelling and Actuarial models
- Underwriting and Product knowledge of the Commercial Property and Casualty Industry
- Ensure Underwriting Initiatives and Strategies support overall growth, profitability and retention of business
- Provide input supporting the development of strategic business planning activities that align with Underwriting philosophy and practices
- Identify and Lead technical training initiatives and projects
- Communicate industry trends related to coverage, guidelines, and legal issues with Underwriting team/s
- Provide product knowledge to functional areas
- Provide Underwriting insight related to Underwriting tools
- Support the Underwriting team to execute business strategy to include pricing, rate adequacy, terms, and conditions
- Recommend product changes in response to consumer needs and marketplace trends
- Participate in pre-renewal, pipeline, new business pre-qualification meetings
- Partner Actuarial team to review insurance products that support profitability, competitive pricing and legal compliance
Qualifications:
- Experience advising and collaborating with Executive and Senior leadership
- Ability to make decisions with limited information and see issues through to resolution
- Property and/or Casualty knowledge and understanding of the industry
- Excellent analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences that include all levels of management
- Strong commitment to providing superior client service
- Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team
- Minimum of 10 years of in the Commercial P&C Industry
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Strong organizational and time management skills
Salary Range $ 121,000 - $220,000. Actual compensation for this role will depend on several factors including the cost of living associated with your work location, your qualifications, skills, competencies, and relevant experience.
