Job Description
Scope of Position


The VP of Development for the West originates, develops and implements (business) development of onshore renewables and storage across the WECC region which includes 11 states and 30+ Balancing Authorities.


On behalf of the West region, The VP - Development is directly responsible for identifying, evaluating, and coordinating key functions related to the development of projects. The VP is also responsible for growing multiple technology business lines, including, Solar, Solar + storage, wind, and storage (short, medium, and long duration). Among these technologies, the VP of Development for establishing development and business strategies, market intelligence, power marketing & competition box out strategies.


The West Region Day To Day Responsibilities Include


  • Executing on the core business requirements PV, PVS, BESS, and Wind: 700+ MW year on year
  • Achieving an overall business requirement of Annual business targets are 500MW+
  • Additionally, the West Region VP will lead portfolio management of approximately a 10+ Gigawatt Pipeline, budget and resources.
  • Act on behalf of region as primary corporate agent in negotiations of any critical agreement and ensure all approvals are obtained


Further, the VP will support Strategic Development Initiatives strategic implementation via development including Offshore Wind, Hydrogen, transmission development, and M&A.


Responsibilities


30% - Oversee day-to-day development activities related to progressing development projects and/or initiatives in line with the regional development strategy consistent to key agreements and approvals.


30% - Set the development strategy for the region, in close collaboration with the Vice President, U.S. Development and other members of Senior Management.


15% - Work with the regional development team and other EDF RE Departments to negotiate and finalize key agreements in support of progressing development projects, including, but not limited to, Offtake, Partnership structures & Acquisition, land option & purchases, interconnection agreements, environmental studies, permitting applications and related documentation, and consultant agreements.


10% - Approve Purchase Requests, invoices, expense reports up to spending limit and coordinate approvals with Senior Management if exceeding the spending limit.


10% - Develop integrated financial budgets including financial analysis and written comments for proposed projects & Review with accounting the monthly reporting of the Regional Development departmental and project financials


5% - Assist in the development and implementation of departmental internal controls. The implementation and supervision of Internal Control is under the responsibility of every manager within his/her scope of authority.

Qualifications


Education/Experience


  • Demonstrated capability in Financial Valuation: Market analysis, Corproate approvals, Competitive Analysis
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or Mathematics required; MBA or other advanced degree desirable.
  • Fluency in Project Development and Portfolio Management Across: Wind, Solar, Storage Across in WECC Markets
  • Counter Party Management: PPA Negotiations, M&A, Partnership formation
  • Requires 15+ years of power development or comparable experience.


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities –


  • Commercial mindset, strong prioritization, communication and organizational skills
  • Requires intimate knowledge of the energy, and if possible renewable energy market, and the ability to stay current with changing technologies, regulations, and trends influencing the continued adoption of renewable energy.
  • Existing professional relationships with local utility representatives, developers, government representatives and others.

  • Ability to quickly work into new tasks and accommodate with new circumstances in a dynamic environment.


Physical Requirements


Minimal physical requirements - working in an office environment and travel to project sites


Working Conditions


Approximately 60% of time is spent in the office environment, utilizing computers (frequent use of various Microsoft software/programs), phones, and general office equipment. Spends approximately 40% of time away from the office in business development activities. Travel includes visits to existing and potential project sites, other EDF Renewable Energy offices, industry conferences and other locations appropriate for the development function. Will spend time in meetings related to strategic planning, financial reviews, management reviews, and special projects; meetings with potential organizational partners and clients, and others related to/interested in the renewable-energy industry.


Fiscal Responsibilities


Budget responsibility in conjunction with the coordination and justification of external resources to support development efforts.
