DESCRIPTION

The position available is a Vice President level role within the ISG Management team. The Sustainable Finance team within ISG is responsible for scaling business opportunities and defining internal processes and coordination focused on sustainable/environmental, social and governance (ESG) across the ISG businesses. The team’s mandate is to help ISG business units deliver client solutions across the division in an integrated and risk-adjusted way. The individual will be required to work with senior members of the division in the EMEA region cross-functionally and cross-divisionally. The individual will be responsible for driving a cohesive approach to sustainable finance/ESG capacity building across the business units that enhances first line risk management, drives awareness that leads to new business opportunities, ensures the business units have access to the best-available ESG content, speakers and information, and drives enhanced coordination across the division. The position has a global remit, where efforts will need to be tailored to local contexts.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Develop and gather buy-in for and implement innovative ideas in which ESG content and subject matter can enhance business strategy and develop client opportunities;
  • Work with ISG Sustainable Finance management to coordinate and develop plans, content, materials, identify and research potential themes and speakers, and partner with key internal stakeholders to deliver ESG content within and across the business units;
  • Understand the Firm and the Division’s priorities for risk management and coordination on ESG issues and develop content that builds the businesses’ capabilities on ESG and increases awareness on the topics for front line employees accordingly;
  • Closely track and understand new processes around internal sustainable finance/ESG governance, tools and procedures that require bespoke materials to be created to support those efforts, develop those materials, and help disseminate them to various businesses;
  • Establish relationships and work closely with ISG Management, divisional Business Unit Risk Management teams, the Global Sustainability Office, Environmental/Social Risk Management, Legal and Compliance, Communications and others as needed;
  • Deliver on other ad hoc projects and workstreams for the ISG Sustainable Finance team as necessary.
  • Work with the various ISG business lines to understand what ESG subject matter, content and capacity building needs are and partner with the Global Sustainability Office and other stakeholders internally to ensure a cohesive approach;

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven ability to take ideas forward and to challenge others with integrity and maturity
  • Exceptional organizational skills and a high degree of attention to detail
  • Proficiency in MS Office and related applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

  • Strong communication skills with an ability to write and/or develop engaging content and speak to Senior Management
  • Awareness of, and ideally relationships with, an external network of experts, professionals and thought leaders who can enhance the business’s approach to knowledge-building in ESG issues is preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a timely and effective manner and thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong motivation, be a self-starter with a positive outlook and desire to solve problems – creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to understand complex workflows
  • ~7 years’ experience with a strong set of ESG content knowledge in the financial services context, potentially with a background in Risk Management, Legal, or Compliance
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills by clearly articulating objectives, requirements, risks and issues
  • Mature ESG subject matter knowledge across global markets where these topics are a priority
  • Understanding of, or interest in, the evolving global ESG regulatory landscape
  • Effective leadership skills
  • Strong project management skills and proven ability to move projects through to completion

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $145,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
