SPP Director Business Development

Starting Salary:

  • $94,300 - $137,000, based on experience

What you’ll be doing:

  • Prepare for consultative engagement with prospects through diligent and thorough research, demonstrating knowledge of prospective customers’ industries and specific business issues and challenges facing them
  • Establishes and maintains direct contact with our strategic account prospects.
  • When appropriate, effectively collaborates with Staples Advantage, Staples Retail, Staples Promotional Products Global offices and HQ departments to respond to Requests for Proposals (RFP), Request for Quotation (RFQ), as well as other unsolicited proposal information in order to secure contractual relationships in the promotional products category as part of a broader customer relationship with Staples. This includes pricing, administration, operations, IS, sales, etc. as well as developing a pricing strategy that ensures appropriate gross margin levels for all affected divisions are achieved.
  • Develops and delivers presentations to prospective accounts.
  • Aggressive pursuit of targeted Fortune 1000 and Global 500 companies within assigned geographic region. 90% of time will be spent on this.
  • Execution of business development sales strategies to move targeted prospects to active opportunities, while positioning Staples Promotional Products as the preferred solution for decision makers and influencers within Marketing, Brand, and Procurement departments of target companies
  • Develops and maintains a strategic account target list for Staples Promotional Products.

What you bring to the table:

  • Strong analytical skills, motivation, along with the ability to multi-task.
  • Computer literacy including competency related to MS Windows-based applications.
  • Proven ability to develop various markets, sales, and management strategies along with the ability to set targets and design growth plans.
  • Consultative/Strategic selling skills with the ability to interface with customers at the most senior levels.
  • Strong business, financial, operations and technology acumen.
  • Ability to develop a clear, strategic sales vision with the ability to communicate that vision.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Ability to understand and articulate the value propositions of other LOBs to a customer.

Qualifications :

What’s needed- Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience in business development or compatible sale experience.

What’s needed- Preferred Qualifications:


  • Proficiency in promotional products solutions.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or related discipline.
