We are looking for our next Senior Vice President of Business Service. This senior level individual will be responsible for strategically planning, directing, and evaluating all Business Services activities for Redwood Credit Union (“RCU”). These will include, for example, Small Business Administration “SBA” loans, CRE loans, all non-MBL loans, Business Credit Cards, Lines of Credit, Merchant Services, Payroll Services, Business Deposits, Account Management (ACH, wires, Remote Deposit Capture) and other ancillary products that serve our Business Member needs. Emphasis is placed on providing excellent Business Member experiences, significantly growing the business, executing strategies to minimize losses, including integrating credit risk principles and data throughout portfolio, and recruiting, developing, and retaining superior team members.


Executive Leadership


  • (“ALCO”), and Business Loan Committee, providing leadership and direction for RCU
  • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings, SLT meetings, Leadership meetings, strategic and operational planning sessions, etc
  • Review and identify cost-effective utilization of all resources. Lead and direct the management of human capital to ensure the availability of skills and abilities needed to meet RCU’s Vision, Mission, Values, and Service doctrine
  • Communicate with senior management regarding all aspects of lending operations, procedures, policies, and strategies. Provide regular feedback to EVP/CLO
  • Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team (“SLT”), Asset Liability Committee
  • Recognize problems, issues, and opportunities; evaluate and consider alternatives; develop, present, and recommend strategic and tactical opportunities; and make appropriate decisions
  • Participate in and represent RCU at internal and external events, conferences, and community functions
  • Manage the overall development of Business Services through business-development programs, motivate staff to sell and market RCU, and take an active role in business development
  • On behalf of RCU, “own” the relationships with key assigned partners, e.g., Small Business Administration, Fiserv, and nCino. Provide leadership and participation in industry trade groups, advisory boards, etc
  • Serve on and/or direct a number of committees to strive for consensus in order to ensure effective interface and communication of policies, programs, and goals among lending services, other departments, and branches
Program Management


  • Processing, underwriting, closing, servicing, and annual reviews
  • Identify potential for losses by monitoring loan portfolios and taking/recommending remedial action
  • Drive all CU and department strategies and projects to satisfactory completion, with regular and consistent updates along the way
  • Provide exceptional service to all external and internal Members and clients
  • Lead and direct Redwood Credit Union’s business lending activities from origination,
  • Recruit, select, train, motivate, discipline, coach, mentor, and evaluate reporting staff
  • Establish and maintain credibility throughout RCU by being an effective listener and problem solver for team members on all lending related issues
  • Continually assess the competitiveness of all programs and practices against the relevant comparable companies, industries, and markets; balance the needs of RCU and the needs of Members
  • Collaborate with Financial Assistance Department on collections and workout activities
  • Lead, direct and build RCU’s outside referral partners for business lending sales channel
  • Develop and implement loan-pricing (via ALCO) and portfolio management strategies that will meet or exceed return on asset targets while providing solid growth in loans
  • Evaluate business lending and business account service products, policies, procedures, practices, documents, and forms to assure efficiency, compliance, and Member service
Controlling


  • Establish and monitor reporting systems designed to keep the SLT and Board of Directors informed of all relevant activities and issues, including timely preparation of monthly status reports
  • Monitor and review the department budgets and adjust expenditure when appropriate
  • After defining and assigning key tasks, establish measurement criteria for tracking results, assign priorities and resources, and perform regular follow-through
  • Delegate appropriate lending authorities to lending personnel, e.g. lending limits and annual review of Lending Policy with the Board
  • Review monthly loan activity and reports to maintain high credit-quality standards and ensure problem loans are satisfactorily resolved
  • Review monthly pipeline and activities to ensure appropriate turn time and pull through rates for the department
  • Review and approve or decline all loans within lending limits
Planning


  • As a member of SLT, formulate plans and policies affecting the overall performance of RCU
  • Lead and develop the annual business and budgeting process for business lending and business account services to ensure appropriate integration with the long-term goals and objectives of the Redwood Group
  • Partner with marketing to develop all Business Services-related promotional and marketing campaigns
Non-Essential Functions


  • Establish and maintain relationships with key contacts in the community including volunteer centers and non-profit organizations
  • Participate in community events, community volunteer boards and associations
  • Volunteer time and capital in community non-profit groups
  • Provide general training to non-Business Services RCU staff
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications


  • Strong negotiation, persuasion, and public speaking skills
  • Knowledge of credit and interest rate economics
  • Skill in the operation of a personal computer and word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software and Intra/Internet access
  • Ability to analyze problems and opportunities, identify and evaluate alternatives, and develop sound, effective approaches
  • Current knowledge of all laws, rules and regulations pertaining to lending
  • Ability to lead, motivate, and supervise team members
  • Ability to manage and develop multiple diverse sales and marketing units with the inherent conflicts from demands and priorities
  • Knowledge of lending best practices
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of people including Board Members, regulators, team members, attorneys, vendors, partners, and other parties
  • Knowledge of asset, liabilities, and credit dynamics in a lending environment
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of financial institution lending methods, practices, and services
  • Ability to travel 20% of time
  • Thorough knowledge of modern management techniques and practices
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate the achievement of strategic and business plan goals, objectives, and work plans
Required Experience:


A combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or a closely related field, with a minimum of fifteen years’ experience in mortgage, consumer and/or commercial lending in a financial institution, with at least four years of that experience at a senior management level.


Compensation: Base starting range: $235,000 to $310,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
