Our East Geography is currently seeking an experienced Senior People Business Partner to join our Human Resources Team. This individual will support our growing East Geography with 700 employees in offices across New York, New Jersey, Boston, and Washington D.C.
Position Summary
The role of the Senior People Business Partner is to support and drive the alignment of our people priorities with Arup’s business strategy and culture. Our team achieves results by being innovative, driven, collaborative, and humane. This role is both hands-on and strategic and provides expertise in the areas of employee relations, workforce planning, performance management, employee retention, coaching/development, conflict management, and ad hoc projects as necessary. Arup’s People Business Partners are passionate about their work and help deliver positive change every day.
Key Responsibilities:
Talent & Performance Management: Deliver appropriate talent planning activities that will identify talent, leadership development priorities, and succession plans. Focus efforts on accessing development needs and promoting a learning environment that supports on-the-job opportunities. Leverage coaching skills to assist employees and managers through development and performance matters.
Team Management: Manage a team of HR professionals. Coach, develop, manage performance, and assign work based on business priorities in the geography.
Learning & Development: Understand the training/development needs of Arup and act as liaison with the Learning & Development COE to deliver or secure appropriate training to the geography.
Workforce Planning: Understands current staffing needs and priorities, as well as future anticipated gaps, and partners with Talent Resourcing to bring in high-caliber talent; Recommends solutions to leaders and managers.
Organizational Development: Support and work with business teams to understand current and future goals and trends that may impact workforce needs and initiatives. Proactively engage with leaders on people strategy through workforce planning, organization design, and structure.
Employee Relations: Responsibly resolve employee relations issues including preparing and approving performance improvement plans, conducting employee meetings, and internal investigations.
Equity, Diversity & Inclusion: Partner to drive diversity and inclusion initiatives with consideration for talent movement, recruiting and representation as well as targeted development initiatives. Collaborate to develop ED&I action plans in partnership with cross-functional partners and ERG members.
Business Knowledge: Ensure depth of understanding of organizations supported, including key functions and processes.
People Metrics: Use data to support the People agenda. Track and report staffing, retention, attrition, and other data to line management; recommend programs and/or enhancements as appropriate.
Compliance: Evaluates People policies and procedures to maintain compliance with local, state, and federal law; stay up to date with current employment & wage and hour laws. Notifies appropriate cross-functional partners of any potential changes in local, state and federal laws.
Special Projects: Develop and work on special and cross-functional projects as identified.
- Experience managing People Partners/Generalists.
- Collaborative work style and demonstrated experience as an effective contributor to a larger People team.
- Ability to handle ambiguity and prioritize within a changing environment.
- 10 years of experience minimum experience, 5+ years of experience in an HR Business Partner role preferred.
- Proven success in leading and supporting organizational change.
- Experience effectively leading projects.
- Substantial experience handling complex employee relations and performance management issues.
- Experience in effectively coaching and guiding employees at all levels.
- Able to deliver solutions and timely results.
- BA or BS degree; Master’s degree a plus.
- Capacity to solve complex problems with a new perspective.
- Ability and proven experience in communicating, influencing, and partnering with clients and providing solutions.
- Demonstrated ability in building rapport, trust, and positive relationships across the organization that result in being viewed as a trusted advisor.
- Demonstrated capability in translating business needs to support leadership and drive implementation of people programs.
New York Office Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in New York is $138,000 to $190,000 per year. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note the hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of New York will differ.
