About OneGoal
A postsecondary education unlocks opportunities and economic mobility not only for students, but entire communities. Yet for millions of underserved students, it remains out of reach: only 22% of students in low-income communities earn a postsecondary degree compared to 67% of students from high-income communities. This is not for lack of ambition or talent, but for lack of opportunity and support OneGoal’s model, (https://www.onegoalgraduation.org/impact/impact-results/) honed over 15 years, delivers a culturally relevant experience that works: 82% of OneGoal high school graduates enroll in a postsecondary institution and 73% of those persist one year after high school graduation. We are looking for individuals to join us in our pursuit of equity.
OneGoal- Houston
Only 12% of students in Houston from low-income communities earn a college degree, compared to 86% of their peers from high-income areas. At OneGoal, we believe that all students – not just those with the best grades or the most resources – have the ability and deserve the opportunity to earn a postsecondary degree. What’s more, we have developed a solution that works, and we believe this problem is solvable within our lifetime. The Person
As OneGoal- Houston Senior Director of Program, your mission is to set vision and direction for programmatic elements and Fellow experience from Y0-Y2. You will co-power and equip the program team (four Directors of Campus Support) to use that vision and direction to strategically reach our key performance indicators (KPIs). You will lead your team to coach and develop Program Directors, create and steward campus based relationships and partnerships, and maintain a strong team culture as measured on Culture Amp.
You Will Do This By
  • Directly engaging with schools in ways that successfully steward them and ensure they are long-term partners
  • Leading our teacher coaches known as Directors of Campus Support (DCS) to develop and execute strong instructional coaching skills to successfully support Program Directors (teachers) and Fellows (students)
  • Working alongside other regional people managers to ensure strong staff experience as measured through Culture Amp and manage 4 direct reports to maximize team effectiveness and deliver key Fellow outcomes
  • Working alongside the Managing Director of Program (MDP) to set, define, manage, and execute the overall direction of the Secondary Program in Houston. This includes developing a robust understanding of the local and statewide education landscape, the factors of quality enrollment, and the curriculum needed to support students to enroll and persist
  • Serve as a regional leader that effectively builds strong relationships with key stakeholders and influences others to achieve outcomes across all levels of the organization
The Work You Will Do
Setting Vision and Direction (35%)
  • Use program team data as well as program year specific data to set vision and set and revise direction and strategies as needed for the Houston program
  • Co-construct with MDP the secondary program vision and align your direction and strategies for your team to meet KPIs
  • Utilize your strategic thinking and learner orientation in collaboration with the MDP to create measurable program growth and manage curriculum workstream aligned to national team recommendations
Team Leadership (35%)
  • Provide informal and formal coaching (with constructive and positive feedback) to your team through bi-weekly check-ins and bi-weekly team meetings; shadowing-the-work opportunities, quarterly 2x2s and annual Performance Reviews in order to develop your team and current progress.
  • Leverage your understanding of the unique needs, interests, and differences of others in order to drive progress toward Fellow goals and model an environment of inclusivity.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain exceptional and diverse talent and drive the team to achieve strong outcomes aligned to vision and values.
Culture and Relationships (30%)
  • Cultivate and support external relationships to support DCS in campus portfolio management, Program Director coaching and training, and postsecondary campus relationships and collaborative actions.
  • Maintain investment of stakeholders by providing or driving work to provide regular updates and communication
  • Manage internal teams to ensure external communication is professional, clear, compelling, accurate and aligned to our mission and vision.
The Senior Director of Program is likely to see themselves in the following examples, as they are designed to help you determine if this opportunity aligns with your own passion, purpose, skills, and experiences.
You believe deeply in our Fellows and their ability to graduate from college.
  • You understand how to motivate and influence youth through the unique challenges and opportunities that first-generation college students may face.
  • You believe that our Fellows face real systemic barriers to college graduation, and that empowering their families, their teachers and them to own their unique path will help them to overcome those barriers.
  • You know what drives your PDs and Fellows and are deeply immersed in the culture of our communities.
  • You seek out and employ different frameworks for identity development, especially for youth.
You believe in the power of coaching.
  • You believe that your impact can be greater when you empower others, that all teachers have the ability to be great, and that even great teachers can achieve more with additional resources and support.
  • You build relationships quickly, consistently, and authentically.
  • Creating incredible teacher training experiences excites you, and because you understand that adult learners are unique, you strive to create trainings that are rigorous, inspiring, and transformative experiences for Program Directors.
  • You know every learner is different, and you know how to adjust your coaching to meet their needs.
You believe that visions are best realized through collective efforts.
  • You recognize that the work of your region is a part of a larger organization effort, and intentionally stay connected to national and other regional teams to learn, align, and strengthen the work across the organization.
  • You can fit into and thrive on any team and on multiple teams simultaneously..
  • You invest others in a shared vision for regional priorities and our vision of excellence. You are able to identify the unique roles others will need to play in bringing that vision to fruition, invest others in their roles, and offer support to see execution through.
Execution is your wheelhouse.
  • You get things done. People know you as someone they can depend on to come through for them. You are trusted by your colleagues because you follow through on your commitments and you circle back and close the loop on communication cycles.
  • You’ve demonstrated the ability to work diligently towards your goals and can comfortably pivot and try new strategies when challenges arise or priorities shift.
  • Even though you are highly effective at executing, you don’t go at it alone. You know that collaboration and teamwork is key to innovation and you are comfortable investing people in a project and leading a project team towards a rigorous execution of your plan.
You hold and act on a deep conviction that the degree divide is one of our nation’s most critical injustices, with deep roots in systems of oppression and racism.
  • You believe in an inclusive and culturally competent society and will actively live out our commitment to diversity and inclusion. (about:blank)
  • You seek to understand and celebrate the unique identities of the individuals with whom you interact; you advocate for and elevate the voices of marginalized people and communities especially those from which our Fellows come.
  • You act on the belief that there are multiple perspectives on the world and understand that a person’s worldview reflects her/his/their own location in the social order relative to such factors as race/ ethnicity, class, and gender. You continuously build our understanding of privilege and oppression especially within the context of our country, education system, and college divide.
  • You believe that our Fellows face real, systemic challenges that hinder their ability to achieve their greatest postsecondary aspirations.
