Join our Hardware Strategy and Planning (HSP) team within Microsoft’s Azure Hardware Systems & Infrastructure (AHSI) organization and be a part of the organization behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission.   We deliver the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's cloud businesses including Microsoft Azure, Bing, MSN, Office 365, OneDrive, Skype, Teams and Xbox Live.
We are looking for a Senior Director, Program Management with broad semiconductor and/or hardware experience to lead multiple strategic initiatives, manage critical hardware and silicon opportunities/engagements, develop well-informed strategy positions/papers, engage with various partners, and negotiate complex business and technology agreements. Success in this role requires a balance between program manager depth, business acumen and technical breadth. As a key leader on our Strategic Engagements and Business Development team within HSP, you will help drive clarity for ambiguous and complex scenarios through developed deep insights, strong cross-company collaboration, and exceptional program management skills. A strong growth mindset is needed to learn and adapt in the dynamic business of hyperscale AI, computing, semiconductors, and hardware. We work closely with many third-party technology providers, and we span across many Microsoft teams to enable the world’s computer with the most advanced hardware systems and infrastructure possible.

Responsibilities
You’ll be expected to collaborate and drive efforts across multiple engineering groups (business units) within Microsoft and external technology providers and organizations; success will be achieved by collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet or exceeding business unit requirements with technical solutions, as well as developing and putting in place processes and methods that bring about efficient collaboration and decision making within Microsoft and Azure. You’ll need to have both excellent project management and people skills paired with technical breadth and passion. Some of your responsibilities will be to:
  • Provide exceptional program leadership with respect and integrity.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with and influence executives and technology leaders inside and outside of Microsoft.
  • Work closely with hardware and software development leads, architects, program managers, business development, legal and other relevant Microsoft teams to support our strategic initiatives.
  • Lead strategic initiatives, industry engagements, business analyses, and strategy papers covering silicon and hyperscale hardware.
  • Recommend internal and external process improvements and facilitate cross-functional discussions and decision-making, to ensure we have optimized processes and alignment across all partner teams and external stakeholders.
  • Initiate and lead ecosystem motions in support of our strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with 1st and 3rd party technology providers to identify and assess existing and emerging technologies and technology development opportunities.
Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
  • 6+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field AND 8+ years program management experience in hardware products and/or technologies relevant to AI systems and/or datacenter/cloud infrastructure.
  • OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to build relationships and influence in a matrix organization.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to present to a wide range of cross-functional partners across different teams and levels of the organization.
  • Experience driving executive-level communication and stakeholder management.
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical field AND 10+ years program management experience in hardware products and/or technologies relevant to AI systems and/or datacenter/cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to work in an ambiguous business environment with rapidly changing and competing business tasks.
  • Capable of driving positive business results by working across multiple organizations.
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion for learning and deploying new technologies.
  • Experience working in hardware infrastructure engineering teams.
Technical Program Management IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
