Skylight is a technology startup based out of Los Angeles and San Francisco. Our mission is to connect loved ones by creating the world’s simplest products and services that improve family life. We make consumer products, like Skylight Frame and Skylight Calendar, that are loved by millions of people across the globe. Our founders are former venture capitalists and serial entrepreneurs, who have scaled this business to $75M+ in annual revenue while being completely bootstrapped. We think often about the thousands of smiles we are able to put on our customers’ faces each day, and it fills our hearts with purpose. That’s why we have been working hard to expand our team and invent, so that we can continue to bring the magic of Skylight to millions of loved ones throughout the world.
At Skylight, we have three core principles that guide our work and help us manage the business day to day: autonomy, rigor, and care. These principles show up early and often and help guide the work we do and the way we work.
We are hiring a Director / Sr Director to be the entrepreneurial leader of our Operations department from end to end. We are looking for a player coach whose domain spans production, inventory management, logistics, and customer fulfillment. You’ll be responsible for managing the COGS stack and have direct oversight over a multi-million dollar budget. The Operations leader will also advise on manufacturing and logistics trends to keep our business ahead of any supply chain disruptions.
You must have managed high-performing teams and have experience scaling a business. Consulting or financial services experience is preferred and manufacturing experience is a plus. This role reports to the COO.
Responsibilities:
- Uplevel our operations with data-driven recommendations and improvements
- Reporting: Keep us organized with clear supply chain and inventory tracking throughout the product life cycle; identify gaps in our data capture and implement new processes/systems where needed
- Expansion: Build greenfield operations in both new sales channels and new international markets
- Partner with leadership to refine methods of entry and identify the best partners/vendors in new markets
- Strategy and planning:
- Production: Oversee our international supply chain, production, and quality control to meet our customers’ high standards
- Ensure leadership is kept informed of performance and potential risks
- Systems architecture: Identify and implement tools that will help us scale our SKUs to more countries and sales channels as the company continues to grow
- Create (and update seasonally) an inventory management and logistics strategy to ensure cost-effective and timely delivery of product to our 3PLs and sales channels globally
- Lead, manage, and mentor the operations department
- Partner with marketing and finance to develop production plans to keep all our products in stock throughout the world, while minimizing excess inventory, staying within the constraints of our working capital, and maintaining unit economics targets
What you’ve done:
- 8+ years of progressive responsibility in operations, consulting, or financial services
- Scaled a business and have built and implemented the tools needed to track physical goods at scale
- Worked in an agile startup environment
- Managed multivariable systems or supply chains
- Experience working with a physical product with a global presence a must
- Multiple experiences solving complex, often unexpected problems and leading projects from start to finish, often through uncertainty
- Managed multiple direct reports and vendors independently
Who you are:
- You’re complicated, fun, and love the “messiness” of getting things done!
- You’re scrappy and entrepreneurial, yet have organizational acumen–you can build a band-aids and bubblegum structure to launch products in new markets but you can also optimize our core business to reduce costs and labor
- Structured yet nimble thinker with strong analytical skills and an ability to think strategically and act tactically
- Quick to act: you’d rather try and fail than do nothing at all
- Sense of humor and intellectual honesty: you’ve made mistakes, learned from them, and laughed at how silly that error was in hindsight, which means you won’t make them again
This role can be remote, but preference will be for candidates based out of Los Angeles or San Francisco. Base salary range will be $170,000 to $190,000 annually, dependent on candidate experience.
