Job Description
About The Team
The Business Controls, Technical Accounting and External Reporting team is responsible for the accurate presentation and filing of all required SEC reporting, the adoption of new accounting standards, conclusions on technical and transactional accounting matters, and partnership with business teams on the design and implementation of SOX business process controls. Our team is a vital business partner to the organization. We are the primary liaison to the external audit team, work closely with the earnings team for quarterly reporting, and partner with business management on unusual or new transactions.
About The Role
Zillow is seeking an ambitious and goal-oriented professional to join the technical accounting team! This person will support the company’s SOX business process control design and implementation, deficiency remediation, and control maintenance activities. We are looking for a highly accountable individual who demonstrates excellent people and project management skills. If you want to make big contributions to a fast-growing enterprise, we encourage you to apply!
Responsibilities
  • Identify gaps in internal control designs that could result in financial reporting risk.
  • Coordinate with internal audit, external audit, and SOX compliance teams on SOX planning, walkthroughs/testing, audit requests, control attestations, and deficiency evaluations.
  • Partner with control owners as a SOX specialist to drive business process control implementation and optimization that will scale with future growth.
  • Propose remediation plans and work with control owners to operationalize remediation efforts.
  • Partner with business stakeholders and control owners to assess potential business changes for impacts to SOX business process controls and objectives, including new products, product improvements, non-routine transactions, and M&A activity.
This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice which must be identified to the Company. Employees may live in any of the 50 US States, with limited exceptions. In certain cases, an employee in a remote-designated job may need to live in a specific region or time zone to support customers or clients as part of their role.
In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington the standard base pay range for this role is $74,700.00 - $119,300.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Nevada, New York City and Washington and may not be applicable to other locations.
In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.
Who you are
  • Comfortable with uncertainties.
  • Robust understanding of SOX requirements for business processes and their related information technology components.
  • Capacity to excel in high-pressure situations in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Solid interpersonal skills and ability to thrive in a team environment.
  • Exceptionally organized with a strong attention to detail.
  • Outstanding analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of SEC reporting requirements as it relates to financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Strong documentation skills (process flows, narratives, issues and remediation plans).
  • Experience with auditing programs, such as AuditBoard, and automation tools preferred.
  • Understanding of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) requirements and trends.
Qualifications
  • Certified Public Accountant strongly desired, or actively pursuing completion of the CPA exam within 12 months of the start date required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience, ideally with Big 4 public accounting experience, or compliance/internal audit experience at a public company.
