Accountant, Senior Associate – Inventory/GL

Design Within Reach is looking for an Accountant, Senior Associate – Inventory/GL to join our team. You'll assist in the accurate recording of financial transactions, in accordance with GAAP, including the preparation of financial information and reports, compilation and analysis of financial information, reconciliation of general ledger accounts and maintenance of subsidiary ledgers. You will support inventory counts across our US fleet of locations for Herman Miller, DWR, HAY & Outlets. You will report into the Inventory Accounting Manager.

What you’ll do:

• Special projects as needed.
• Work closely with multiple departments and warehouses.
• Prepare monthly reconciliations for all inventory related accounts and other GL accounts.
• Prepare monthly journal entries related to inventory and COGS to record inventory movement, shrink, and accruals for inventory in-transit.
• Prepare various general ledger reconciliations and accruals related to month end close.
• Cross train on other GL and AP functions.
• Maintain SOX controls and processes related to inventory & COGS.
• Review daily inventory activity.
• Ensure that inventory is properly valued and appropriately reserved under US GAAP.
• Identify and implement process and performance improvements.
• Assist with inventory audits and other aspects of compliance.
• Assist/Prepare in the scheduling of annual physical inventory counts, review cycle count results, and investigate variances as needed across our US fleet of locations for HM, DWR, HAY & Outlets.

• Strong accounting skills in US GAAP, Inventory Management, and SOX.
• Strong knowledge of Excel including VLOOKUP’s and Pivots are required.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet deadlines.
• Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be self-starter.
• BA/BS degree in finance or accounting or equivalent job experience.
• Retail industry experience preferred.
• Knowledge of ERP System - NetSuite is a must.
• Solid understanding of FASB rules and regulations.
• 3+ years of experience in Accounting or Inventory Accounting.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Strong working knowledge of Windows based applications including Excel, Word, Access, MS outlook and accounting packages.

A starting compensation range for this role is $58,801.60 - $73,450.80. Relevant salary considerations will include candidate qualifications and experience, other business/organizational needs and market factors . You may also be eligible to receive a geographic premium, annual discretionary incentive and equity awards which are subject to the rules governing these programs.
