Telework Opportunity
New Hanover County is seeking a Public Safety Data Analyst to serve the Fire Services department. This position is responsible developing and maintaining a client-based records management system, specific to Fire Services, in order to collect, analyze, and distribute data necessary to the operations and business plan of the department.
Essential Duties:
- Collects, analyzes, and prepares statistical reports used for Fire Services operations and it business plan.
- Runs audit queries of the records management system data and identifies/corrects errors in preparation for sending required information to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
- Responds to requests for data analysis and information from command staff by querying the records management system and creating the necessary reports to provide the information.
- Analyzes and performs maintenance of GIS data layers used by Fire Services by reformatting data from the records management system, CAD, and other systems into usable format for analysis.
- Conducts maintenance of the records management system application to identify incident trends and deployment strategies.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
- Provides ongoing systems maintenance to include overseeing the updates of new software versions.
- Analyzes and performs maintenance of GIS data layers used by Fire Services by reformatting data from the records management system, CAD, and other systems into usable format for analysis.
- Performs work during emergency/disaster situations.
- Designs and generates necessary activity and statistical reports for all agencies and makes required changes to ensure report information is being provided.
- Develops reports on computer aided dispatch (CAD) response times, apparatus and equipment maintenance, risk management (pre-incident survey) data, community risk assessment data and incident report data in order to allow the department to measure performance with regard to established standards.
- Designs and distributes reports to staff that assist in identifying trends and patterns in fire services-related matters, which will be used in making process/policy decisions.
New Hanover County Fire Rescue is comprised of a team of dedicated emergency response professionals who work to protect and educate citizens from the threats of fire and other emergencies. Our employees stay committed to the County's model of good governance working 24 hours a day in eight (8) fire/rescue stations, protecting 220 square miles of the County. The department partners with Cape Fear Community College to sponsor internship students in the First Responder Academy and also offers a first class volunteer firefighter program. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related field and seven (7) years of public safety programming and applications experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Hours:
7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday - Friday
Must be available to work in emergency situation and report per established department policies.
Employment Type:
Full-time, exempt
Telework Status:
This position is identified as able to telework, where the employee will perform work duties at a home office or other alternative work site approved by the county. Employees who telework must still be available to report to county offices for meetings, according to policy. All employees, regardless of telework status, must be available to work during emergency situations and per established department policies.
Salary Information:
The salary for this position begins at $56,351. Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
