Job Description

Overview

This position collects and reports Vermont blood lead surveillance data for the Department of Health, the public, and other government agencies. The position oversees the collection of data from multiple organizations using multiple modalities for reporting, requiring regular communication with laboratories and health care practices to obtain accurate patient and demographic information. All children with elevated blood lead levels are identified and assigned a case manager to conduct a lead source investigation. The position will monitor the work of the case manager to ensure that families are contacted and visited and that lead investigation data are entered into our surveillance system. Data analysis is also needed to identify high risk geographical areas and populations to decrease disparities in blood lead levels by race/ethnicity and socioeconomic status. The position will assess data needs and gaps, evaluate the quality of existing blood lead data, and integrates existing data to ensure its usefulness for decision making. This position will use the surveillance system to analyze data to improve program efficiency, program protocols and procedures, and update program goals. The position will also conduct epidemiological analyses including examining the nature of lead poisoning, patterns, risk factors, treatment modalities, and other factors affecting communities and high priority population groups.
