Job Description
Originally founded in 1991 as Harlem RBI, DREAM has grown to annually serve more than 2,500 youth across East Harlem and the South Bronx through a network of six PreK-12, extended-day, extended-year DREAM Charter Schools and community sports-based youth development programs. The Managing Director of SEL and Out-of-School Time will be responsible for creating and driving the Grow-the-Whole Child Model to drive exceptional outcomes for students, families, and staff. The Managing Director of SEL and Out-of-School Time reports directly to the Managing Director of Programs and works closely with the other members of the Management team.
Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with peers and the Management Team to refine, articulate, and continuously improve DREAM's Grow the Whole Child model to achieve targeted results
  • Work with the Network Director of Mental Health to create and monitor processes to ensure mandates are being met across the network
  • Effective Teaming:
  • Collaborate with network leaders to plan and execute summer institutes for school leaders, new teachers, and returning staff
  • Work with the Talent Team to support with the job design and hiring practices of relevant roles
  • Provide positive, collaborative leadership and participate in collegial problem-solving in a variety of situations and departments
  • Work closely with the Managing Director of Schools and Managing Director Curriculum & Instruction to ensure the curriculum and pedagogical approach, effectively supports the Grow the Whole Child model and approach to SEL

  • Lead monthly walkthroughs of all SEL and OST programming across all school sites
  • Facilitate collaboration with school leaders around alignment of content, systems and routines of afterschool, summer, and school-day programming to maximize student outcomes
  • Establish curriculum vision, curriculum expectations and program dosage for all Out of School Time Programming
  • Establish and ensure successful implementation of network vision for positive culture practices and systems to build positive community among staff, families and students (community gatherings, family events, staff SEL, student incentive systems)
  • Ensure high-quality SEL, Mental Health, and Out of School Time (Afterschool and Summer) Programming by creating systems and structures for curriculum codification and implementation
  • Working with the Schools Team, establish dosage guidelines and criteria for success for advisory, morning meeting, RULER, Tier 2 intervention, summer and Afterschool SEL programming, Adult SEL programming
  • Program Quality and Curriculum:
  • Oversee the Deans of SEL and Community to ensure that mental health providers are meeting all IEP mandates

  • Lead implementation visits monthly with Dean of SEL & Community and Network Director of SEL & Mental Health to drive continuous improvement cycle
  • Lead training and professional development to Deans of SEL & Community and teachers, including but not limited to Leader Institute, summer institute, and monthly professional development
  • Oversee the design and execution of coaching and development for the Network Director of OST + Athletics, school-based OST & Athletic Directors, and all other OST staff
  • Professional development:

  • Develop and Lead Program Quality Observation Cycle to maximize impact of programming and ensure outcomes are met
  • Oversee Deans of SEL & Community to drive the execution of SEL data systems, including SEL data administration and collection, data analysis, continuous improvement, and action planning
  • Execute design and implementation of program innovation initiatives (including developing partnerships, logic models etc.)
  • Data, Evaluation, and Infrastructure:
  • Collaborate with Data team to ensure fidelity of all program data systems and high-quality data collection
Qualifications:
  • A successful record leading effective teams and individuals, managing organizational change and initiating key innovations
  • Bachelor's degree, required; Masters Degree in Education and/or School Administration, preferred
  • Supervisory and leadership development experience with school leaders, instructional staff, and teacher leaders
  • Deep knowledge of best practices in educational leadership & SEL
  • Expert knowledge, understanding and experience in developing curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development systems
  • A strong belief in the mission and values of DREAM, including the desire to make a difference in the lives of our students, families, and community.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to convey complex information to a variety of audiences
  • Willingness to be hands-on and do whatever it takes to develop and maintain an excellent system of schools and programs
  • An ability to connect with a diverse group of people and build strong relationships grounded in listening and high levels of challenge and support
  • A strong analytic, performance management, accountability, and systems-thinking orientation necessary to inform strategy development and execution
  • A drive to succeed and achieve great results on behalf of students, especially those furthest from opportunity
  • Extensive teaching and leadership experience with a record of achievement in SEL for ALL children
Compensation:
  • We offer a comprehensive benefits plan, covering the majority of the employee premium for medical plans and subsidizing the majority of costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Other benefits include dental and vision plans, disability, life insurance, parenting benefits, flexible spending account options, generous vacation time and paid holidays, referral bonuses, professional development, an employee assistance program (EAP) and a 403(b) plan with employer matching up to 4%.
  • DREAM offers a competitive salary commensurate with relevant experience with the potential for an annual performance-based increase. The incoming salary range for this position is $150,000 to $160,000. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary closer to the start of the range depending on qualifications and internal equity. All staff are eligible for annual performance-based increases. Because we value staff tenure in each role, we do not currently cap salary ranges.
