Managing Director - Head Of Investments

Craft Lane is a newly established investment company focused on providing its investors with attractive alternative investment opportunities. Craft Lane is anchored and backed by some of Saudi Arabia’s biggest family-owned groups.

As the Head of Investments at Craft Lane, the candidate will have the unique opportunity to work alongside the Managing Partner, to help build-out the Firm and get in on the ground floor of a well-capitalized diverse and emerging manager. The Fund will have a broad mandate to invest directly in venture businesses, and/or other fund managers to achieve attractive returns for the Fund’s LPs.

Craft Lane is seeking to hire a Managing Director (Head of Investments) who will help lead our investment program. The candidate will be full time, and will assume the lead role to design and execute the Firm’s investment strategy.

Responsibilities include:

• Assume material role in communicating with LPs, and prepare related materials as needed
• Assist with Firm fundraising efforts
• Build and leverage the Firm’s network within the VC ecosystem to source prospective investment opportunities
• Provide hands-on leadership for all aspects of investment activity, from origination to exit
• Manage post-investment portfolio company reporting and review processes, including collecting and reviewing quarterly financial information, maintaining investment data and preparing company updates
• Work with and support portfolio companies, including attending board meetings and monitoring performance to ensure returns and strategic objectives are achieved
• Lead all aspects of the investment due diligence process including: market sizing and mapping, competitive market identification, industry research, review and analysis of business plans, financial modeling, valuation
• Help drive recruiting, supervising and training of junior staff
• Develop and formulate the Firm’s overall VC investment strategy, focus and approach – taking into account target industries, target companies, target markets and investment sizes

Qualifications and qualities of an ideal candidate:

• Highly developed analytical skills with ability to define issues, collect and analyze pertinent data, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, draw valid conclusions, propose sound recommendations, and implement approved solutions in support of specified goals; attention to detail is critical
• Entrepreneurial with strong communication skills
• Proven experience from sourcing to exiting investments, including deal analysis, due diligence, reviewing and negotiating all documentation, serving as deal interface, and driving deal processes to completion
• Possesses a global outlook, capable of working comfortably in a cross-cultural team-oriented environment
• Proven ability to recruit and manage junior professionals
• A minimum of 10 years of experience including significant experience at a top-tier venture capital firm, or major corporation venture capital group, with a deep understanding of the venture capital landscape
• Willingness to roll up one’s sleeves, non-hierarchical, unpretentious, ambitious, and energetic
