Job Description

As the Manager of Special Events, you will play a pivotal role in driving revenue by nurturing relationships with our valued SOSC constituents. In this capacity, you will contribute to enhancing event and relationship management, with the ultimate aim of bolstering financial support for SOSC.

Reports To: Senior Director, LETR
Compensation: This is a full-time position with benefits commencing on the first day of the following month after your start date. The salary for this non-exempt role falls within the range of $53,040.00 to $65,000.00, dependent on your relevant education and experience.
Key Responsibilities
Special Events: 75%
Oversee designated signature and local events, including LETR Plane Pull, Clay Shoot, Softball Tournament, and more.
Collaborate with the Volunteer Services Department to recruit, register, and acknowledge day-of volunteers.
Assist in crafting volunteer job descriptions and provide orientation training, as well as recognition, for each special event.
Facilitate opportunities for volunteer leadership and committees, supporting their growth and involvement.
Secure volunteer leaders to lead event committees, drive revenue through sponsorship, donations, and in-kind contributions, initiate Peer-2-Peer fundraising teams, initiate DIY fundraising pages, and promote the SOSC brand.
Plan and coordinate event logistics in tandem with the support of volunteer leadership committee.
Lead the charge on sponsorship, ticket sales, peer-to-peer fundraising, in-kind and auction item acquisition for every event.
Identify potential attendees, sponsors, and donors for strategic cultivation and engagement.
Engage athletes, volunteers, and coaches to actively participate in events.
Collaborate with the Marcom team by sharing event photos and adhering to social media posting and hashtag guidelines.
Foster relationships with law enforcement officers to lead LETR event committees.
Assist in communication efforts, including emails, newsletters, and social media posts.
Cultivate connections with local programs, community groups, and government entities to drive revenue and promote SOSC.
Special Event Support: 20%
Maintain updated records for LETR lead constituents in NXT with accurate details.
Ensure timely distribution of all mailings.
Manage an up-to-date list of gifts related to special events.
Assist in developing and coordinating fundraising materials as required.
Create auction bid displays, bid sheets, and send post-event thank-you letters from SOSC and event committee to donors.
Attend committee meetings, providing insights and recording notes.
Coordinate logistical support for fundraising strategies, encompassing event preparation, truck loading, day-of event setup, and teardown.
Risk Management: 5%
Assist in overseeing Risk Management for assigned events, ensuring adherence to SOSC policies, including volunteer screening and registration, contract reviews, and event logistics.
Job Level Responsibilities
You will collaborate with your supervisor to establish and pursue agreed-upon goals and plans. You'll enjoy autonomy and flexibility in your day-to-day activities as you work towards achieving these goals. You will possess decision-making authority regarding matters within your area of responsibility. Additionally, you'll supervise a range of volunteers, including interns, and may also oversee hourly employees.

Education And/or Experience
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university or equivalent professional experience.
4-6 years of directly related professional experience, including employee supervision.
Experience in managing volunteers and/or staff, catering to a diverse group of individuals.
Previous exposure to working with individuals with disabilities, either through paid or volunteer engagements.
Prior military or law enforcement experience is advantageous.
Skills And/or Abilities
Proficiency in relevant technology, internet navigation, and software use, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and database systems.
Strong background in organizational development and community outreach.
Demonstrated project management acumen for executing intricate, multi-stakeholder projects.
Exceptional organizational and project management skills, underscored by meticulous attention to detail.
Self-motivated, with a proven ability to work independently.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with proficiency in public speaking.
Outstanding organizational, time management, and problem-solving capabilities.

Possession of a valid California driver’s license and compliance with minimum California vehicle insurance prerequisites.
Successful completion of a background screening encompassing criminal history and DMV records.
Work Environment
This role's primary work location is at the SOSC Long Beach office. Remote work may occasionally be requested by SOSC or requested by employees with prior approval. Remote work settings must be conducive to focus, include a suitable work surface, and offer reliable Wi-Fi connectivity. The typical noise level in the office environment is moderate. This position may necessitate driving and travel within Los Angeles County.
