The Logistics C.O.E. Lead will be responsible for leading the effective management of global transportation and logistics activities across Barnes, Barnes Industrial and Barnes Aerospace. Key responsibilities include implementing and monitoring freight-related initiatives, strategic sourcing for all freight modes, services, audit and payment, supplier management, identifying and driving cost reduction initiatives, developing and tracking key performance metrics, logistics resiliency and continuity planning, and reporting KPIs to Barnes leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and refine category strategies including initiatives to drive cost out, improve service performance, address capacity / lead time concerns, and define responsibilities
- Drive freight audit and payment performance to eliminate late fees and carrier interruptions, drive savings. Host quarterly business review with freight and audit supplier to monitor KPIs
- Monitor market conditions to determine potential implications to business, determine appropriate actions to address market changes, and communicate relevant information to appropriate brands and executive team
- Develop and analyze spend reports to ensure compliance to contract and track / manage rogue spend. Include new spend to strategic programs from existing or new brands / sites as needed
- Conduct / Lead supplier alliance meetings to identify cost take out opportunities, prioritize, and execute on initiatives (Examples: Network Optimization, Freight Consolidation, zone skipping etc.)
- Contract awards and contract management
- Supplier selection and rate negotiations
- Develop tools to track sourcing initiative and savings impact and report to the businesses and leadership teams
- Identify new suppliers to evaluate / engage as potential future strategic partners
- Locations: Flexible on site locations / remote
- Lead strategic sourcing initiatives for freight which will include the aggregation of regional or global spends for all modes on a periodic basis to drive cost out while optimizing the freight landscape for Barnes
- Manage supplier scorecard and solicit feedback to identify non-performance. Work with suppliers through monthly / quarterly business reviews (alliance mtgs) to address issues and develop resolution plans
- Leverage available technology such as TMS systems to optimize freight performance and contract compliance
- Participate in quarterly meetings with other COE leads across Barnes to discuss initiatives, major value drivers, and best practice sharing
- Establish monthly/quarterly meetings with category stakeholders across organization to align on strategy, initiatives, progress, and discuss issues / resolutions
Skills & Qualifications:
- Develop materials for, and participate in, training on import and export regulations and policies as needed
- Manage, monitor, and measure all suppliers, cost and processes associated with air, ocean, parcel, LTL, and trailer load freight, as well as logistics support services
- Effectively communicate and engage with stakeholders within a decentralized multi-site environment
- Demonstrated experience (10 yrs.+) of Transportation and Logistics management in a multi-site industry environment, with a track record of achievements
- Understanding of "total landed cost" concepts, basic cost accounting and inventory optimization
- Proficient in computer applications (ERP, MS Office) and able to conduct data analyses on the financial impact of proposed logistics changes, such as routing, shipping modes, product volumes or mixes, or carriers. Recommend optimal transportation modes, routing, equipment, or cadence
- Work with Barnes businesses to identify and capture duty drawback opportunities
- Manage and build strong relationships with carriers, Barnes logistics teams, and manage and leverage 3rd party transportation providers
- Establish or monitor specific supply chain-based performance measurement systems
- Experienced in sourcing and negotiating with 3PLs and carriers and executing freight contracts
- Analytical acumen; Strategic Thinker; Strong problem-solving skills with professional polish and poise in front of senior management executives
- Experience with implementing new freight vendors, logistics system, process and procedures, training department on the new system, process, and procedures
- Understanding of End-to-End supply chain activities and related value drivers
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Team player in a fast-paced environment with effective time management and organizational skills
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, transportation, economics, business administration, project management, or a similar field is preferred
