Job Description
Purpose:
A sustainable process development and continuous improvement strategy is an integral part of a Quality Management System in GCP governing Research & Development (R&D). The Process & Performance Excellence (PPE) organization resides within Development Operations and was formed to drive operational excellence, promote innovation, and foster a culture of compliance and learning in the successful acceleration of AbbVie’s pipeline. PPE is comprised of Clinical Process Compliance, Learning, Training, and Learning Management Systems, and Process Development & Continuous Improvement. Clinical Process Excellence (CPE) connects the PPE Centers of Excellence with Development’s Business Process Framework (BPF).
The Director, Clinical Process Excellence is responsible for managing a team of process experts to support all aspects of an industry leading process management including - but not limited - design of new processes, process optimization and improvement, processes performance, and learning management for the Development organization. This role is responsible for planning and delivery of strategic initiatives in support of optimization of our end-to-end clinical research process management. Additionally, Director, Clinical Process Excellence will be responsible for the oversight and evolution of global projects that support business process infrastructure and successful delivery of continuous process improvement. Responsibilities include measuring the effectiveness of the projects and continuous improvement of the model in response to the changing business environment. Director, Clinical Process Excellence will be responsible for their performance and development of 3-7 direct reports. This role will report to the Head of Clinical Process Excellence.
Responsibilities:
  • Partners with CPE Liaison and Learning Systems Lead to align on strategy and execution of services.
  • Partners with Business Process Framework (BPF) and functional leaders to ensure effective delivery of CPE services.
  • Oversees progress of all project plans to assess actual vs projected performance while managing and prioritizing workload and assignments, as necessary.
  • Lead designated global program(s) that support business process infrastructure and successful delivery of continuous process improvement.
  • Leads and develops a team focused on the prioritization, planning, delivery, and optimization of our end-to-end clinical research processes through alignment and prioritization of process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Demonstration of successful execution of process improvement strategy in a fast-paced environment managing multiple priorities effectively using innovative and creative solution.
  • BS or BA required; advanced degree preferred
  • Competent in the application of standard business procedures (SOPs, ICH, Global Regulations, Ethics and Compliance).
  • Demonstration of successful coaching/ mentoring, people management and communication skills in a matrix environment.
  • 10+ years experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare or regulated industry preferred.
  • Experience in a leadership role with strong management skills in a complex matrix environment, preferably in the healthcare industry.
  • Effective leadership skills with a proven ability to foster global team productivity and cohesiveness.
