We are seeking a Kitchen Manager to join our rapidly growing team.
The Opportunity:

The Kitchen Manager will oversee all of our culinary operations and ensure that the University’s high standards are met. You will support, motivate, and educate our team while creating a friendly, positive, and welcoming environment for our students, athletes, faculty, staff, and visitors. As an innovative and analytical person, you will develop systems to increase our team’s efficiency, facilitate volume growth, improve our facility, and manage our budget. The Accountabilities:
- Develop and implement security related procedures such as office opening and closing routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls. Coordinates security activities with University Public Safety Department, Promote and maintain standards for security conscious awareness and behavior. Maintain knowledge of university's crime prevention and suppression programs and services. Ensure dissemination of security related information to staff
- Develop systems to improve operational efficiency, facilitate volume growth, improve general facilities maintenance and cleanliness. Ensure adherence to all systems, procedures and policies. Create, maintain and implement all unit Standard Operating Procedures in coordination with Hospitality Management.
- Oversee all aspects of kitchen operations. Conducts daily line checks, food reviews and recipes of the day. Maintains currency, understands and ensures unit compliance with all university policies and procedures, inventory procedures and with all applicable, local, state and federal health and safety guidelines
- Preform other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to change duties at any time.
- Plan, organize, direct coordinate, schedule and delegate responsibility to the staff, ensuring the goals and objectives of the kitchen are met on a daily basis by the staff. Maintain current kitchen schedules, staffing templates, staff trainings, ordering and production targets
- Maintain costs for food, beverage and labor within established budgetary guidelines and ensure unit generates revenue
- Plan and develop menus in coordination with Executive Chef and Senior Manager Operations
- Directly or indirectly supervise department employees and or student workers, usually through one or more supervisors. Perform recruitment, screening, hiring, orientation and training of department staff. Evaluate employee performance and provide guidance and feedback. Counsel, discipline or terminate employees. Resolve problems referred by subordinate supervisors or staff. Oversee processing of time cards and delivery to payroll.
The Qualifiers:
- Experience in leadership role in high-volume, full-service kitchen environment.
- Strong track record of success in previous assignments, demonstrated by upward career mobility.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

The annual base salary for this position is $75,000.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
Minimum Education: Specialized/technical training Minimum Experience: 3 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Three plus years experience in a leadership role within a high-volume, full service kitchen environment. Strong track record of success in previous assignments demonstrating upward career mobility. Demonstrated knowledge of pertinent local, federal and state health and safety laws and regulations.
