POSITION PROFILE


Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the REACHing Magis Program


The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion provides support services for underrepresented students to promote retention, academic success, and community engagement. The Director of REACHing MAGIS provides recruitment, retention, academic, and engagement oversight of the Saturday and summer programs.


About the Position:


The Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion/REACHing MAGIS program is a full-time, 12 month position, which reports to the Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.


The position is Monday - Friday (March - August) and Tuesday - Saturday (September - February).


The Director will collaborate with key stakeholders to create a welcoming environment where underrepresented students feel a sense of belonging at Saint Ignatius High School. The Director will assist in the creation and execution of programming, education, training, and events. The Director will also help develop and implement proactive diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives which will support the school’s mission and contribute to the outreach, recruitment, retention, and overall success of marginalized students represented within the Saint Ignatius High School community.


The position also helps with the execution of campus wide events and initiatives that align the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion with the school’s Catholic identity, mission, Ignatian Spirituality, and the school’s commitments to celebrate, educate and advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion.


The individual in this position needs to be knowledgeable on diversity, equity, inclusion, social justice and anti-racism issues impacting marginalized communities more broadly. A successful candidate for the position should be able to collaborate, partner and communicate well with internal (i.e., faculty, staff, students) and external (i.e., alumni, parents, community members, school representatives) stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Acts as liaison to underrepresented students whether self-identified or faculty/staff identified including creating programs of support.
  2. Participate in the design and implementation of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion framework and training for students that will actively facilitate a community-wide understanding and practice of equity and inclusion.
  3. Design, plan, implement, and assess diversity and inclusion programs and events for the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  4. Support student success initiatives and provide support, as needed, for students with marginalized identities.
  5. Oversee the Multicultural Student Union (MSU) student group.
  6. Coordinate student engagement opportunities with SIHS student organizations.
  7. Identify relevant speakers, events, and performers for campus events aligned with the Saint Ignatius High School mission.
  8. Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to create promotional materials,
  9. Foster collaborative relationships with administrative offices, academic departments, and student groups.
  10. Represent the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on various school committees.


REACHing Magis Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Hire, train, and supervise REACHing MAGIS staff.
  2. Organize and facilitate staff onboarding and professional development.
  3. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to recruit Magis students.
  4. Establish and/or sustain relationships with local elementary schools.
  5. Organize Open House days for prospective families and school personnel.
  6. Assist and perform other duties as needed.

  2. Demonstrated excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to work independently with little direction.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with students, school employees and the public.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; and effectively present information, as needed.
  5. Ability to advocate for the underrepresented populations and ensure that services, programs and policies are rooted in inclusive and equitable practices.
  6. Experience planning and implementing campus programs and events related to diversity, inclusion, and social justice.
  7. Demonstrated competence in engaging and facilitating dialogue on identity and social justice issues.
  8. Ability to present to groups of students, faculty, staff and parents.
  9. Ability to work weekend hours is required for this position.
  10. The individual must have an understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion in an educational environment with a desire to work with students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds and varying social identities to advance the culture of inclusion.
  11. The individual must be proficient in all standard computer applications, including Microsoft 365 products, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. General knowledge of office principles and procedures is required. Familiarity with Social Media platforms is desired


Required Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree is preferred; Bachelor's degree is required from an accredited institution in higher education.
  2. Minimum 7-10 years’ work experience including a minimum of 2 years working with students and diverse stakeholders in an academic environment. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.
  3. Demonstrated commitment to the principles of social justice, equity and inclusion.
  4. Experience developing and conducting on-going diversity and inclusion training programs.
  5. Lead student facing DEI programs in partnership with student groups, organizations, and other units on campus.

About Saint Ignatius High School:

Saint Ignatius High School, which opened its doors on September 6, 1886, is a Jesuit college-preparatory school. The school enrolls more than 1,400 young men who hail from 92 cities in an 11-county region. Located in close proximity to downtown Cleveland in the vibrant and energetic Ohio City neighborhood, the school occupies 23 acres and includes 19 buildings and three athletic fields. The school has 114 faculty members, 89 percent of whom hold advanced degrees. Fifty-six percent have spent 10 years or more teaching at Saint Ignatius.

Saint Ignatius is also home to The Welsh Academy, a middle school for boys from local families of modest economic means, founded in 2019. The Academy enrolls more than 60 boys in grades 6-8 and occupies Kesicki Hall on campus.
