Job Summary

The Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing initiatives and projects that advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion as among employees of and communities served by, the Line of Business. This position works collaboratively with EDI and Line of Business leadership, staff, and community-based partners to help ensure institutions and services are equitable and to center the voices and experiences of members and communities served by the organization.


Essential Responsibilities

Relationship-Building, Collaboration, and Communication

  • Collaborate with highly matrixed organizational leadership and staff to implement and enculturate initiatives and projects that advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Nurture spaces and facilitate discussions that empower truth, vulnerability, psychological safety, and shared learning.
  • Model communication and behaviors that center justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, are trauma-informed, and resist defaulting to the dominant culture status quo.
  • Liaise with CareOregon’s centralized EDI team to align work and share best practices.
  • Develop relationships and cultivate trust with community-based partners, including community-based organizations, local public health, clinic systems, social services providers, and the CCO’s Community Advisory Councils (CACs) and members.
  • Communicate organizational goals and activities within and outside the organization using plain language and varied messaging approaches to increase accessibility and understanding.

Planning, Development, and Implementation

  • Participate in the development of metrics, success indicators, dashboards, and tracking tools to monitor and share progress with relevant audiences.
  • Participate in planning, developing, and implementing strategic initiatives to advance EDI within the organization, reduce health disparities across communities served by the Line of Business, and meet OHA contract obligations and regulatory deliverables.
  • Liaise with CCO community engagement staff to embed CAC and community experiences into CCO health equity initiatives and projects.
  • Apply an equity lens and trauma-informed principles to the implementation of EDI initiatives and projects.
  • Identify, compile, or develop resources and tools to support Line of Business leadership and staff in promoting culturally and linguistically appropriate services (CLAS) and advancing equity, diversity and inclusion.

Project and Program Management

  • Help coordinate and implement communication plans for CCO EDI initiatives and projects.
  • Manage a variety of CCO EDI initiatives and projects; develop timelines, identify project team members, and shepherd the completion of deliverables.
  • Contribute to writing reports related to OHA contract obligations, regulatory deliverables, and accreditation requirements.
  • Provide technical assistance to community-based and clinical partners engaged in building culturally responsiveness practices.
  • Collect data and manage dashboards and tracking tools to report progress on strategic initiatives and achievement of success indicators.

Organizational Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the CCO’s policies, procedures and other relevant compliance needs.
  • Strive to meet annual business goals in support of the CCO’s strategic goals.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
  • Support the CCO’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion by fostering a culture of open mindedness, cultural awareness, compassion and respect for all individuals.
  • Perform work in alignment with the organization’s mission, vision and values.

Experience and/or Education

Required

  • Valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and automobile liability coverage or access to an insured vehicle
  • Experience in program or project management
  • Minimum 2 years’ related experience in healthcare, education, and/or non-profit organizations, including direct experience working with marginalized communities, disparities reduction, social justice programs, or health equity issues
  • Experience with community building and/or community engagement

Preferred

  • Additional experience helpful, including organizational EDI experience and facilitating discussions on racial equity

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

Knowledge

  • Understanding of systemic health inequities, including disparities in access to care and health outcomes, structural racism/discrimination, and social determinants of health
  • Knowledgeable in various topics related to organizational EDI, including power and privilege, unconscious bias, microaggressions, plain language, and characteristics of white dominant culture
  • Knowledgeable in best practices for culturally responsive organizations, trauma-informed care, and CLAS standards

Skills and Abilities

  • Effective project management skills with the ability to utilize active and passive approaches to implementation and consider diverse input when making recommendations or decisions
  • Ability to collaborate, communicate, and build relationships with diverse contributors, including those belonging to marginalized communities and people belonging to populations experiencing health disparities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to lead meetings, deliver presentations, and facilitate sensitive conversations
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Smartsheet
  • Ability to work in an environment with a complex matrixed structure, shifting priorities, consistent change, and considerable ambiguity
  • Ability to embrace feedback and conflict with curiosity and open-mindedness
  • Ability to make equitable and data-informed recommendations that value and center community wisdom and lived experience
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse individuals and groups
  • Ability to accept direction and feedback, as well as tolerate and manage stress
  • Ability to see, read, hear, speak clearly, and perform repetitive finger and wrist movement for at least 6 hours/day
  • Ability to learn, focus, understand, and evaluate information and determine appropriate actions
