Job Description


The Director, Human Resources is a high-impact member of our dynamic and energetic Human Resources team. Located in Chicago and reporting directly to the VP, Human Resources, the Director oversees the management and development of Ventas’ most important asset – its people. They hold a critical role as business partner and trusted advisor to leaders and management to anticipate talent-related needs and deliver recommendations aligned to the business objectives of the organization, ensuring the cohesive delivery of human resources programs and services. The Director, Human Resources will be expected to


  • Partner with the leadership team to develop strategies to support strong employee engagement and manager capability, including learning and development, succession, and workforce planning
  • On an ongoing basis, assess and modify existing programs and policies to ensure market competitiveness and alignment with Ventas’ culture and direction
  • Support and drive DE&I, ensuring day-to-day practices that cultivate a diverse and inclusive workforce, and advising on goals and areas of focus with a data-driven approach
  • Lead, manage, develop and coach a team of HR professionals as well as the Office Manager
  • Drive the continuous improvement of the existing talent evaluation and performance management processes to create alignment with organizational objectives and develop best in class methods/tools to enhance skills, improve effectiveness, and enhance levels of engagement across the organization
  • Ensure that core processes and internal controls are executed with rigor, attention to detail and accuracy
  • Engage with leaders to identify high potential performers and enhance career development to support the growth of the company
  • Coach managers and employees to strengthen work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention to drive successful business outcomes
  • Identify training programs and objectives to align with company needs including leadership & management development, career development, compliance, diversity, equity & inclusion (DE&I), and professional and technical skills
  • Assess and recommend employee relations practices to reinforce a positive employer-employee relationship and promote a high level of employee engagement


Experience/Qualifications


  • Proven experience as a trusted, strategic advisor and business partner to senior executives
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to Human Resources, including broad based knowledge of employment laws with professional HR certification preferred (PHR or SPHR)
  • Strong project management skills; proven ability to drive initiatives from concept through implementation
  • 8+ years of broad and progressive human resources experience, ideally with a well-regarded professional or financial services firm
  • Experience in and comfortable working in a matrixed, shared services environment
  • Successful track record of working and thriving in a dynamic, action-oriented and often ambiguous environment
  • Leading and building high-performing HR teams; developing talent and bench strength while transferring knowledge and expertise to colleagues
  • Developing and facilitating training and professional/leadership development programs at all levels within an organization
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to drive change by engaging others and getting buy-in through influence
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business or other related degree required; Master’s degree desirable
