General Description: The Coordinator of Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) reports to the Associate Director of Curriculum and Innovative Education and is responsible for providing college-wide oversight of all CPL initiatives, activities, policies, and procedures. The Coordinator works closely with academic leadership to ensure CPL activities meet the needs of NOVA students.

Duties and Tasks:
  • Raise awareness of the relationship between CPL and transfer.
  • Recommend new CPL opportunities; guide the approval of new CPL policies.
  • Coordinate Prior Learning Activity for Credit Evaluation (PLACE).
  • Provide leadership for CPL and other Academic Affairs initiatives for adult learners.
  • Maintain and update all CPL information in all publications and the website.
  • Manage questions about the interpretation of CPL policies.
  • Chair the CPL Committee; assure that CPL policies comply with NOVA, VCCS, Code of Virginia and SACSCOC requirements.

Essential Functions: Essential functions of the job include project management, professional collaboration, effective oral and written communication, use of office and instructional technologies, and working with faculty and PLACE students.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

  • Fulfill related responsibilities of the position with minimal supervision.

  • Willing and able to work cooperatively with faculty and staff members at all NOVA campuses.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Required Qualifications:
  • Some experience with different types of CPL.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with a diverse group of adult learners.
  • Experience using computer systems and applications, including knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Master’s degree awarded by a regionally accredited institution.

  • Experience providing leadership for some aspect of CPL.
  • Experience advising adult learners.
  • Previous experience working at a community college.
