Position Summary


The Program Coordinator will be responsible for the management and expansion of the PA Consortium for Higher Education in Prison (PA CHEP ). This is a community of partner college-in-prison practitioners based on a shared commitment to truly democratic access to liberal arts education. The Consortium is united in its interest to strengthen the relationships necessary for systemic improvement, both academic and operational, to broaden access to higher education for incarcerated individuals. The ideal candidate will have experience or an interest in higher education in prison. The role will require research capabilities, strategic thinking, and cross-sector coordination with a range of stakeholders to grow the consortium’s network. The Coordinator will assist with programmatic goal development and providing recommendations for the advancement of these goals. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are vital as the candidate will assist with building support for the work with wide-ranging constituencies from the public and private sectors. The successful candidate will share the partners’ vision for this work and exhibit the analytical, organizational, and promotional skills necessary to fulfill their mission. This is a remote position with occasional trips to the Department of Corrections facility in Collegeville, PA required. This is a three-year, grant-funded position and subject to grant funding.

Duties And Responsibilities


  • Help create and manage social media accounts and support digital communications.
  • Provide support for the successful continuation and growth of the program.
  • Provide support for special initiatives as the program grows.
  • Help with travel, accommodation, logistics, and communications related to legislative meetings, conferences, and convenings both in state and nationwide.
  • Create digital assets and communications.
  • Manage subgrants.
  • Provide administrative support for PA CHEP as a whole.
  • Organize webinars, convenings, and other events.
  • Help maintain regular communication and check-ins with consortium members and create new communications channels to facilitate a community of practice.
  • Perform other duties and assist with projects as assigned.
  • Offers technical assistance, strategic planning, and resources to emerging programs and long-term partners.


Minimum Qualifications


Formal Education


  • BA required, Masters preferred.


Work Experience


  • Experience with event planning including in-person events, webinars, and other online forums;
  • Experience working collaboratively on projects;
  • Experience in digital media and design preferred;
  • Comfort using Google Drive and Microsoft Office;


Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)


  • Strong written and oral communication skills including copywriting and editing;
  • Commitment to Villanova’s mission of defying expectations of who college is for and where it might lead;
  • Ability to self-manage, maintain focus, and balance multiple tasks;
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Familiarity managing social media accounts
  • Ability to creatively problem-solve and and demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of diverse stakeholders from corrections officers and prison staff to academic administrators and university faculty and students.
  • Familiarity with the PA DOC , its policies and procedures and culture.
  • Familiarity with academic institutions preferred
  • Comfortability working inside state correctional institutions and the population therein

  • Eligibility to be cleared to enter PADOC facilities
  • Valid driver’s license
