Job Description

Duties

Major duties include but are not limited to following:

  • Provides general clerical public contact support services such as answering the telephone, referring visitors, or providing information.
  • Serves as a backup timekeeper and is responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and timely submission of Time & Attendance reports for each employee whose record has been assigned to their jurisdiction.
  • Analyzes workflow to determine potential problem areas and makes recommendations to correct these areas and to improve coordination between the various units and/or offices.
  • Provides administrative support to all staff within the Engineering Service line, maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Schedules appointments, coordinates meetings, and/or schedules conferences. Maintains calendars and records appointments and provides administrative support for arranging meetings and/or conferences.
  • Obtains, organizes, files, and retrieves reports, correspondence, and numerical data for use in preparing status reports, briefings, and presentations.
  • Provides general clerical mail and correspondence services such as preparing a variety of recurring reports, reviewing outgoing correspondence for proper attachments, or consolidating/coordinating submittals of information.
  • Obtains office supplies the service line. Justifies and requests replacements for outdated equipment by identifying the outdated equipment, gathering relevant information on office equipment.
  • Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.
  • Perform other assigned duties as assigned.
  • Meets the needs of customers while supporting VA missions and consistently communicates and treats customers (veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner, and provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 06/02/2023.Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-05 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-04. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials.
