Position Overview
The Vice President of Operations – North America is responsible for strategic leadership of our chemical manufacturing facilities in North America (Pensacola, FL, Decatur, AL, Alvin, TX, Greenwood, SC). This includes driving manufacturing excellence across all sites with a focus on Environmental, Safety, Security and Health (ESSH), reliability, and people development while maintaining high quality standards, fostering an inclusive culture and employing process improvement principles. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), this role works closely with other executives to ensure that the company's manufacturing operations are aligned with the overall business strategy.
Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic oversight of production, reliability, quality control and internal logistics to ensure the efficient operation of manufacturing processes across the integrated supply chain.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to the Executive team and other key leaders on the status of manufacturing operations, key performance metrics, and other relevant information.
  • Develop and grow a capable manufacturing team that can deliver on short and long-term business targets.
  • Partner with manufacturing leaders to identify and resolve key manufacturing issues and constraints as well as identify new opportunities to leverage advanced technology, manufacturing digitalization, drive business profitability and long-range plan execution.
  • Ensure that manufacturing processes follow regulatory requirements, safety standards, and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Lead strategically to develop new concepts to build organizational improvement, problem solving analysis and resolution, best practices sharing, and systems thinking.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to drive productivity, cost improvement and efficiency using six sigma processes and lean manufacturing techniques. This includes monitoring key manufacturing performance indicators and implementing changes based on manufacturing industry trends, technology, and regulations.
  • Drive our ‘Commitment to Zero’ with a safety-first mindset through all our facilities and ensure commitment in all aspects of our operations to include process safety, health, sustainability security and environmental regulations.
  • Develop close partnerships with key commercial and supply chain leaders to meet customer expectations.
  • Collaborate with other leaders to develop and implement cross-functional initiatives and programs to support the company's overall business strategy.
  • Develop and implement the company's best in class manufacturing strategy in alignment with the overall business strategy to help drive EBITDA growth.
  • Effectively lead transformation and implement change management plans.
  • Visibly champion and influence our organizational values, standards and expectations.

Reports to: Senior Vice President and Chief Integrated Supply Chain Officer
Direct Reports: Site Manufacturing Directors, Production Engineering Director, 1500+ indirect reports
Qualifications
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in a manufacturing leadership role, with a proven track record of success in driving operational excellence, process improvement, and cost savings
  • Demonstrated ability to align with Ascend’s values and leadership behaviors
  • Experience implementing manufacturing digitalization
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, safety standards, and quality assurance guidelines in the chemical manufacturing industry
  • Experience working with ERP and other manufacturing software systems
  • Strong leadership and multi-site management experience, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team of professionals
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address complex operational and reliability issues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with other senior executives and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred
