Manufacturing - VP Finance and Accounting
Our client, a private equity-owned Portland, OR-based food manufacturer, has retained CXO Source to find a results-driven VP, Finance, and Accounting to lead their finance and accounting team. Reporting to the CEO. This individual will perform financial planning, create and lead financial processes, and prepare budgets and reports to meet company needs. This role is intended to continually elevate company financial processes and maintain overall financial transparency with the Executive Leadership Team.
To ensure success the VP, Finance and Accounting, should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of financial management principles and significant experience in a similar role at a manufacturer. A first-class VP, Finance and Accounting will be someone whose expertise translates into optimized financial operations and increased profitability for the company.
Responsibilities:
LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT
- Guiding financial decisions by developing and monitoring policies and procedures.
- Overseeing financial and accounting team and analyzing performance metrics.
- Serving as the senior-most finance leader in the company, driving ongoing visibility into company finances and continually striving to improve company financial processes.
- Leading, mentoring, and talent development of the finance team (approximately five FTEs with the potential to grow).
ACCOUNTING PRACTICES AND PROCEDURES
- Evaluating and enhancing financial controls.
- Performing internal audits and financial risk assessments
- Coordinating and recording investments and maintaining fixed asset records.
- Developing a standard operating procedure manual, documenting new processes, and ensuring compliance with financial management and accounting regulations.
- Monitoring and improving closing processes, accruals, prepaids, invoicing, expenses, reimbursements, and payroll administration.
- Develop and maintain accurate inventory costing & controls.
- Maximizing returns on excess cash balances and elevating closing and reporting cycles.
REPORTING
- Assist with tax planning and compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll and other applicable taxes.
- Prepare monthly financial reports with supporting schedules in a timely manner.
- Coordinating and recording CapEx investments and maintaining fixed asset records.
- Prepare management discussion and analysis of interpreting balance sheets, income statements, and cash flows and creating well-informed suggestions based on this data to the Executive Leadership Team.
- Preparing annual operating and capital budgets, forecasts, variance reporting, and reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations.
- Coordinate annual financial statements and tax returns with the CPA firm.
- Ensure timely reporting of and assist staff with weekly financial and operational KPIs.
Requirements:
- Extensive experience in corporate finances, auditing, and performance management.
- A CPA/CMA or master’s degree with a focus on corporate financial management is preferred.
- As tracked by ongoing metrics, excellent leadership, communication, collaboration skills, and a passion for continuous improvement.
- Superb organizational and time management abilities.
- At least ten years of experience in finance, including 5 years of experience in manufacturing/Food manufacturing experience preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a similar field is required.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP accounting standards and industry regulations.
- Advanced ERP and inventory systems competency.
