Job Description
The Morgan Stanley Inclusive Ventures Group (the MSIVG) consists of i) the award-winning global in-house startup accelerator, the Morgan Stanley Inclusive Ventures Lab (MSIVL) and ii) the thought leadership platform, Center for Inclusive Access & Opportunity (CIAO) which includes groundbreaking research and the award-winning podcast Access & Opportunity. The mission of the group is to create a more inclusive investment landscape for underrepresented founders by providing access to capital, content, connections, and community.


The Inclusive Ventures Lab is Morgan Stanley's in-house startup accelerator focused on promoting financial inclusion and providing access to capital for early-stage technology and tech-enabled companies led by underrepresented founders. Launched in New York in 2017, and expanded to London in 2021, the Lab offers an intensive five-month program designed to help further develop and accelerate startups.


The Vice President role in the Inclusive Ventures Lab will:


  • Building and maintaining relationships with founders, supporting various management, strategy, and funding matters, as necessary and relevant
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant entrepreneurial ecosystem members including Venture Capital firms, Angel Groups, Accelerators and Corporate Partners, and represent the Lab at various industry events
  • Synthesize analyses into meaningful deliverables/presentations for senior management, the accelerator's investment committee, and external stakeholders
  • Manage the day-to-day activities and interaction with companies in the active MSIVL cohort, including:
  • Support the analysis of investment opportunities, and assist with deal execution and investment in companies
  • Collaboration with other MS constituents and relevant groups from a mentor/assistance/introduction and potential vendor analysis perspective
  • Support the preparation of strategic business and operational plans for the group that highlight the results and contributions of the Lab
  • Manage key processes of the lab including investment selection, evaluation, due diligence, negotiation, closing, ongoing corporate governance, and potential exit of the portfolio companies
  • Manage industry/sector company analysis and perform company due diligence
  • Engage and provide support as necessary to the other initiatives on the team, large client convenings, and ad-hoc research projects
  • Prepare detailed valuation analyses and presentations to the Investment Committee and monitor strategic developments relevant to the portfolio companies
  • Manage the existing portfolio of companies in partnership with the Lab's Portfolio Manager by interacting with the management team, establishing, and monitoring KPIs, overseeing valuation analysis, company forecasting and collaborating with the Financial Controllers for quarterly reporting


The ideal candidate has a fundamental knowledge of financial analysis including company valuation and investment analysis; experience and/or interest in venture capital investing; start-up operations; and can manage large, multidimensional projects.


Skills Required


  • Experience creating investment memos or evaluating companies for investment
  • Exceptional analytical skills with a fundamental understanding of corporate finance and investment principles as well as financial products/ securities
  • Exceptional writing, communication (both internal and external) and presentation delivery skills
  • Proactive self-starter and creative problem solver with a keen interest in the diverse/women business sector, impact sectors, venture capital investing and start-up operations
  • Ability to guide junior resources in conducting the appropriate analyses and support of the lab required
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage significant workload and work well under pressure, in addition to a demonstrated ability to deliver to a range of audiences (both internal and external) with a range of differing priorities
  • Strong financial modeling skills required
  • 6-8 years of relevant experience in investment banking, corporate finance, strategic investments or venture capital
  • Extensive experience managing projects with minimal supervision, in addition to sound judgment and the ability to operate independently
  • Strong interest in developments around technology, startups, entrepreneurship, venture capital


Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 110,000 and 190,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
