Job Description
Join our Venture Studio – Portfolio team in off-site
Ricono, a start-up venture that spun out of the D. E. Shaw group in 2023, seeks a creative, intellectually curious individual to join as a senior software engineer. Ricono is building SaaS products that streamline insurance billing to unlock trapped opportunities and earnings for insurance agencies. The software engineer will architect, build, and operate Ricono’s core product offerings. This role offers the opportunity to be part of an inclusive, collaborative, and engaging working environment. This role is with Ricono, not with the D. E. Shaw group. As a portfolio company of the D. E. Shaw group’s venture studio, DESCOvery, Ricono benefits from the firm’s entrepreneurial experience and industry connectivity. Please note that Ricono will be reviewing all applications and making hiring decisions independently of the D. E. Shaw group.

What you’ll do day-to-day

You’ll design, implement, and maintain back-end and infrastructure components of the Ricono platform. You’ll establish yourself as the owner of a particular component, feature, or system with expert end-to-end understanding and decision-making authority. You’ll also contribute to high-level technical decisions alongside the CTO and have the opportunity to represent developers in design and product discussions.

Who we’re looking for
  • We’re looking for ambitious, creative, entrepreneurial-minded individuals with superb teamwork capabilities and impressive critical thinking, analytical, execution, and communication skills.
  • The expected annual base salary for this position is $185,000 to $235,000 with equity to be discussed on offer. Ricono’s benefits package includes health, vision, and dental coverage.
  • Two or more years of programming experience with Python will help candidates excel in this role.
  • Experience designing and improving efficiency, scalability, and reliability of SaaS products especially software for billing, payments, business data visualization—is very valuable.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence / machine learning is preferred.
  • Two or more years of using Docker or Kubernetes is beneficial.
  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree is required, preferably in computer science or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience building and maintaining cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines will help candidates excel in this role.
  • Five or more years of programming experience with React, TypeScript, NodeJS, PostgreSQL, TypeORM, or other relevant programming languages are required.
  • Prior startup experience, or experience working with insurance or financial technology, is highly sought after.
