Job Description
The Social Marketing and Communication (SMC) department within FHI 360’s U.S. Programs is a national leader in applying a science-based approach to social marketing and communication to address public health and other challenges in the U.S. SMC currently implements a diverse portfolio of social marketing, public relations, communication, and training and technical assistance projects in the U.S. that are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Institutes of Health, private associations, and foundations. In the past decade, our team has worked on issues such as diabetes, emergency and pandemic preparedness, obesity prevention, sexual health, HIV, cancer, asthma, immunizations, violence prevention, access to health care, and tobacco control and cessation. The Strategic Outreach and Partnerships Specialist (Health Communications Specialist III) is a key position that will lead the scalable outreach task within SMC’s HIV Communication Team. The team supports CDC with the implementation of the Let's Stop HIV Together (Together) campaign in the United States, along with other projects within SMC.


Please note: Eastern time business hours are required for this position.


Key tasks will include:


  • Writing copy and content for a broad range of materials, including outreach products (toolkits, partner emails, recruitment letters), and project management resources (communication plans, creative briefs, strategy documents, and summary reports).
  • Working closely with the scalable outreach task lead and other task managers to coordinate activities and meet deadlines.
  • Collaborating with Design Lab, FHI 360’s in-house graphic design group, on scalable outreach task needs, including implementation guides for executing outreach events, creative products for engaging community members, and social media graphics for event promotion.
  • Providing leadership and day-to-day management of scalable outreach activities in partnership with the scalable outreach task lead.
  • Managing various communication processes and workflows in support of strategic communication needs.
  • Supporting project management activities, including developing and updating standard operating procedures for tracking and reporting task activities and preparing weekly project reports for the client.
  • Serving as a trusted communication advisor of scalable outreach task needs, content development, review, and approval.
  • Liaising with clients and acting as the main point of contact for all scalable outreach requests.


Major Responsibilities:


  • Contribute to the team’s upbeat culture of innovation, customer service and excellence.
  • Use good judgement to monitor and address client issues in a timely manner and keep senior project management apprised of activity progress and barriers.
  • May provide operational and technical support as needed such as writing and/or reviewing monthly technical reports, updating work plans, etc.
  • Develop findings and recommendations summary reports for scalable outreach task activities and contribute to the annual end-of-year report summarizing all campaign activities, lessons learned, and recommendations for future work.
  • Contribute to business development efforts, including proposal strategy, writing support, and development of speculative creative.
  • Liaise with FHI 360's creative development and design team to develop consumer outreach products, update existing products for partner use, and maintain a tracking database for all campaign print materials disseminated via partners or in-person events.
  • Lead the development and implementation of new, innovative scalable outreach activities to pilot with partner organizations.
  • Contribute to the development of other key plans for the campaign, including the yearly strategic implementation plan and tactical plans for targeted campaign initiatives.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, researchers, other team members, partners, and clients to establish workflows and timelines and keep them up to date.
  • Develop the overarching scalable outreach proposal for the contract year, as well as additional plans for implementing task activities such as community listening sessions, Together campaign outreach events and activities, and the development of implementation guides for executing outreach events.
  • Contribute to FHI 360 and SMC’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion by applying a racial equity lens to project activities and development of materials so they are culturally appropriate and accessible to all groups.


Qualifications:


  • Demonstrated knowledge of health communication and/or social marketing principles.
  • Excellent judgment and demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive relationships with external clients.
  • Ability to thrive in high volume, dynamic environments and operates effectively amongst ambiguity.
  • Demonstrated experience in translating public health science into persuasive, digestible copy for consumers and professionals.
  • Experience working with CDC or other federal government agencies is preferred.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Teams.
  • Spanish-language fluency, both written and spoken preferred.
  • Familiarity with SharePoint and web-based content management platforms is preferred.
  • 8+ years' experience with strategic communication, health communication, marketing, outreach, public relations, advertising, promotion, or other communications methods required.
  • Bachelor's degree in advertising, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communications, Health Promotion or related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization preferred.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a heavily matrixed team.
  • Expertise in sexual health, including HIV prevention and treatment is highly preferred.
  • Excellent technical and creative writing skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage projects with efficiency and diplomacy.
  • Ability to prioritize and competently manage a variety of activities with multiple deadlines.

  • Ability to lift/move 5 - 50 lbs.
  • Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.
  • Ability to sit/stand for extended periods of time.
  • Typical office environment.


Technology to be Used:


  • Computer/Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype/Zoom/Teams), cell phone/mobile technology, and standard office equipment.


Travel Requirements:


Up to 10% - 25%


Pay Equity and Benefits:


The expected hiring salary range for this role is listed below. FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to: relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.


Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 12% of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours/week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.


Hiring Salary Range: $90,000 - $109,000
