Job Description

Lead Advertising Division Sales Support, including Direct Marketing, Preprints and Online. Ensure attainment of the department’s revenues, service and expense goals by managing and leading designated team (Direct Marketing, Preprints, Product Distribution, Advertising Technology and Print/Online Support). Build appropriate business relationships; hire, train and develop staff. Align all goals to New York Daily News’s strategic plan to ensure continuous improvements, customer-focused quality and proactive focus and engagement to ensure continuous revenue growth and share gain across all product lines.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participates on Tribune’s centralized project teams representing The Daily News’s Advertising Division’s business needs.
  • Builds and maintains effective communication links within the newspaper and direct marketing industry. Partners with the US Postal Service for optimum delivery.
  • Ensure smooth transition and build immediate trust and respect of sales staff
  • Pursue the development of niche products to meet the changing needs of our advertisers for customer ROI and improved New York Daily News’s profitability
  • Act as key liaison between the Advertising and Technology departments, streamlining communication and coordinating Advertising activity and technical projects
  • Manage advertising division support related to areas of responsibility (Direct Marketing, Preprints, Product Distribution, Advertising Technology and Print/Online Support)
  • Identifies trends and changes in the marketplace and develop strategies to meet New York Daily News’s advertising and company objectives
  • As a member of the Daily News leadership, model the core values and promote their use throughout the company. Act as an agent of change, share power, knowledge and help foster a positive and respectful work environment for productivity, high performance, positive employee morale, creativity and innovation.
  • Evaluate, adjust as necessary, and maximize cost structure to ensure market share growth in all lines and categories for short term and long term growth
  • Prepare a variety of reports to research, analyze, explain on-going advertising business results as well as trends, projected results of new systems/procedures, and unusual conditions.
  • Establishes goals and performance metrics for staff and management and actively manages performance
  • Confirm commitment to highest standards and business practices, ensuring all policies are enforced consistently and reinforced with quality training across all staffs
  • Ensure compliance with company and departmental policies and practices. Interpret policies and practices as needed. Identify improvements in operating procedures.
  • Perform additional managerial and professional duties to support the goals of New York Daily News and the Advertising Division

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Extensive knowledge of Advertising sales, sales support management, products and technology
  • Demonstrated ability in managing in a competitive market
  • Knowledge and demonstrated experience achieving customer-focused improvements
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects/priorities while maintaining accuracy in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent organizational, communication and problem solving skills
  • Excellent coaching, leadership and customer service skills
  • Proven budgeting and expense management ability
  • Knowledge in vendor management and negotiations
  • Ability to work effectively with interdepartmental and cross-company teams, strong negotiation skills, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business or equivalent work experience with emphasis on management, training, staff development, newspaper, digital, direct marketing and/or publishing technology.


REVENUE/BUDGETARY/STAFF RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Assist in developing budget; manage expenses to adhere to budget
  • Effective allocation of resources will assure optimum balance among quality, revenue, and schedule performance. Improper handling, routing and or prioritization would have an adverse effect on revenue, and customer satisfaction with the potential of lost revenues.
  • Supervise Sales Print/Preprint/Digital Support, Niche Product, and Preprint staff
