Why Patients Need You

Pfizer’s purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients’ lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer’s purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies that matter most. You will apply your skills to accelerate and bring the best-in-class small molecule medicines to patients around the world.

What You Will Achieve

As a Senior Scientist, you will be at the center of our operations and you’ll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. You will be recognized as a technical expert and a scientific contributor. With your deep knowledge of the discipline, you will be an active team member whose decisions impact the project. Your creativity in developing new ideas will be used frequently. You will undertake mentoring activities to guide other team members.

The key purpose of this position is to support and influence the early candidate substrate from a physical chemical, drug delivery and bioperformance perspective through close collaboration with partners on the Research Project Teams and in Pharmaceutical Science. You will need to act as a pharmaceutical science subject matter expert to inform, educate and influence Discovery teams in finding NCEs with desirable drug delivery and performance properties. This role will include assessment of in silico, in vitro and in vivo data as well as design of stage appropriate formulations for preclinical studies. An awareness of later stage development needs as well as an understanding of the disease state and biology will help to enable the definition of the required design elements.

This position will interface with multidisciplinary teams and work closely with colleagues in Medicinal Chemistry, Biology, Drug Safety and Pharmacokinetics Dynamics & Metabolism. Strong relationships with Clinical, Analytical, Materials Science and late-stage clinical formulation colleagues are also expected.

It is your hard work and dedication that will make Pfizer ready to achieve new milestones and help patients across the globe.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Assess and clearly communicate drug delivery and performance risks (using in silico, in vitro and in vivo data as well as sound scientific principles)
  • Ensure own work, meets agreed project deliverables and stakeholder needs, maintaining quality and reporting findings either verbally or in written format
  • Identify opportunities to use computational tools to help solve project challenges.
  • Participate on Pharmaceutical Sciences teams in the development of novel small molecule drug products.
  • Develop strategic collaborations with academic and industrial researchers for addressing gaps in fundamental or applied science related to the physics and physical chemistry of the solution sate thermodynamics for organic compounds.
  • Closely collaborate with Research partners to evaluate molecular attributes relevant to drug delivery and influence team strategies.
  • Publish research in reputed scientific journals and give presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Design and develop fit for purpose preclinical formulations (traditional and enabling) to enable robust candidate selection and progression.
  • Act as a technical and scientific resource within own project team/ discipline.
  • Interface with multi-disciplinary teams composed of scientists with experience and expertise in biology, pharmacology, synthetic organic chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, etc.
  • Participate on multidisciplinary project teams and collaborate with colleagues to reach project milestones and project timelines.
  • Develop hypotheses, design experiments to test hypothesis and provide interpretation of data to assist in resolving challenging physicochemical problems associated with drug delivery systems.
  • Apply technical and functional knowledge to design experiments, and independently completes work within own work group/ project team, working on multiple subprojects in parallel.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MA/MS) and 7+ years of relevant experience or Doctoral Degree (PhD, MD, PharmD) in Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Physical Chemistry or Biophysics
  • Demonstration of strong scientific leadership and curation and execution of new technology initiatives is desired.
  • Skills with working in research teams at interfaces and in multi-disciplinary environments is beneficial.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of data structure, capture, analysis and visualization is desired; experience with Spotfire or Tableau would be beneficial.
