Job Description
Make your mark for patients


To strengthen our US Discovery Biology Team, based out of our Boston R&D Hub in Cambridge, MA, we are looking for a talented individual to fill the position of: Scientist I – Discovery Biology. This scientist will build on established hands-on scientific expertise and drive forward integrated cross-disciplinary efforts to develop the next generation of innovative therapeutics for neuromuscular disease. The candidate will be expected to develop and execute functional cell based and biochemical assays to support selection of lead molecules. This scientist will also perform new target ID and validation work.

Major Accountabilities/Responsibilities


  • Collaboratively develop and routinely perform differentiation of iPSC cultures to provide translationally relevant cells for probing pathobiology of neuromuscular disease.
  • Developing cell-based, target-specific functional assays to support identification of lead molecules
  • Analyzing, interpreting and documenting research data and present to cross-functional teams.
  • Establishing and executing weekly protein degradation assays including timely reporting of high-quality data
  • Identify gaps in our understanding of pathobiology and proactively design experiments address these gaps


Minimum Experience/Skills Required


  • Works under general direction and may consult management to obtain information to build consensus and project direction. Has thorough knowledge and understanding of concepts and subject matter expertise.
  • Experience and working knowledge of concepts including but not limited to in vitro pharmacology, cell biology, molecular biology, histology/immunohistochemistry, FACS, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills with the proven ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Master’s degree with 6 years of relevant industry experience
  • Continuously develops more in-depth knowledge of UCB's drug discovery process through reading, conferences and seminars


Preferred Experience/Skills


  • Experience training junior researchers is a plus (CoOps, Interns)
  • Experience with in vivo disease models and ex vivo pharmacodynamics is preferred
  • Experience with culturing a broad variety of mammalian cells; proficiency with maintenance and differentiation of iPSCs is preferred


Salary Range: $105,390 to $122,955 base salary
