Job Description

ROLE: Scientist - Molecular Biology

WHO WE ARE

ODDITY is a consumer-tech platform transforming the global beauty and wellness market. We deploy advanced technology, including molecular discovery, synthetic biology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and computer vision to develop exceptional products and deliver consumers a superior experience. ODDITY, valued at $1.5B in 2022, is backed by L Catterton (the largest consumer-focused PE fund in the world) and a selection of top investment firms. Our digital-first brands, IL Makiage and SpoiledChild, are rapidly disrupting the offline-dominated beauty and wellness industries around the world.

ODDITY LABS is our cutting-edge biotechnology R&D center, powering science-backed product innovation through the discovery and development of new molecules, probiotics, peptides, and other biological modalities. Unlike pharmaceuticals, ingredient innovation in the beauty and wellness industry has remained stagnant for decades.

We are deploying patented, proprietary technologies and capabilities, including AI-based molecule discovery and advanced phenotypic databases, to understand the biological mechanisms that drive cellular behavior and develop uniquely efficacious products for beauty and wellness applications. Innovations from the ODDITY LABS will power game-changing products through ODDITY’s current brands, as well as future brands.

Our exceptional team is passionate about using biology and technology to disrupt consumers’ product expectations and shopping journeys, shifting millions of consumers from offline to online along the way. Our culture is fast-paced, innovative, agile, and offers every team member the opportunity to drive a big impact.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We’re looking to hire a Scientist in Molecular Biology. This individual will be a meticulous, creative, and passionate individual who will define and execute strategies to address key scientific questions for our projects in early-stage molecule discovery, as well as late-stage development and product validation. They will:

  • Develop and/or standardize protocols to support successful transition from molecule discovery to product validation.
  • Coordinate extensively with cross-functional partners to infuse all insights with clear vision and feedback.
  • Develop and present new concepts in partnership with ODDITY LABS / ODDITY leaders.
  • Lead the design, execution, and interpretation of studies and data to enable proof of mechanism, proof of biology, as well as understanding of safety and efficacy profiles of novel molecules for topical applications.
  • Provide scientific and technical insights to support R&D projects in the ODDITY LABS pipeline.
  • Continuously select and evaluate new biotechnologies to cover project needs and gaps, and expand our Molecular Discovery toolbox.
  • Support 1-3 team members across their developments, providing feedback, coaching, and mentorship.
  • Refine and evolve existing pipelines to enable data-driven decision-making, acceleration through the molecule-to-product stages, and product validation pipelines.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and be a leader within ODDITY LABS and across ODDITY teams.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You are a strong problem solver with a deep curiosity and desire to tackle challenging molecular biology questions in a fast-shifting environment.
  • You are a hard worker with a high level of accountability - you believe good enough never really is good enough. You want to always improve, both personally and professionally.
  • You are adaptable and a team player, willing to go the extra mile and jump in on ad hoc tasks to support the overall scientific goals of ODDITY LABS.
  • You have an analytical mindset with comfort analyzing data and translating that analysis into actionable and scientifically rigorous insights.
  • You have an advanced degree (PhD, MD, MD/PhD, PharmD) in biology (or related), with a solid scientific background in molecular biology or biochemistry.
  • Extensive experience with various biochemical assays, including DNA/RNA, protein, and ligand binding assay technologies, and genomic and RNA sequencing technologies, and data analysis tools.
  • You have strong organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and good laboratory practices, with an ability to create structure in ambiguous situations.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communications with experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders, including scientists and non-scientists.
  • You can code in Python (proficiency is a plus).
  • Extensive understanding, knowledge, and experience with cell culture, specifically, culture of multiple cell lines and primary cells.
