Translational Sciences and Medicine (TSM) is an integrated group of scientists composed of a clinical Translational Medicine (TM) team which conducts early clinical development and experimental medicine studies, and a Translational Sciences (TS) team which uses human based data and tissues to support the end to end portfolio. Together, the TSM group will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. Organizationally, TSM serves as a pivotal bridge between Discovery Research and the later phase Clinical Development group. TSM provides the necessary scientific and clinical expertise to advance an industry-leading pipeline of novel mechanism small molecules and biologic agents to address unmet need in immune-mediated diseases.

TS has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision- making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target-centric indication sequencing and prioritization, and biomarker support of regulatory filings. It has expertise in biomarker development, disease biology research and in the application of immunology and data science technologies to support drug discovery and development.

This position will reside within the GI group in Immunology Translational Sciences department and requires a highly motivated and skilled candidate to assist in the clinical progression of innovative therapies across immunologic diseases.The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of drug discovery projects and demonstrate the ability to design, shape, implement novel experiments and interpretation of data.The candidate will bring an enthusiastic discovery mindset to Translational Sciences.

The successful candidate will be effective in the execution and troubleshooting of lab experiments for human-based in vitro/ex vivo stimulation models and new assay development for disease understanding, target validation, and disease exploration.Further, the candidate will operate in a highly collaborative environment with members of TS and the Discovery organization. The Scientist will follow best practices for Data Integrity complying with organization and company standard operating procedures in a timely fashion, such as training and project time accounting.

Responsibilities Are As Follows

• Design and execute experiments to discover new biomarkers for portfolio assets.
• Take initiative to identify, pilot and internalize emerging technical approaches that may drive increased value for portfolio execution.
• Work closely with other lab-based personnel within Biomarkers to ensure optimal laboratory environment (collaboration, culture, safety, etc.).
• Support new platform development in Immunology Biomarkers.
• Partners with external providers as needed to support development and execution of assays in support of Immunology assets.
• Design, execute, and troubleshoot molecular and/or cellular assays for patient stratification in clinical trials for the Immunology Therapeutic Area.

Job Qualifications

• Immunologist with human-based tissue experience is highly preferred.
• Experience with flow cytometric assays (examples include Symphony, CyTOF and cell sorting).
• Excellent communication skills.
• Interfacing experience with both academic and external CRO partners.
• Assay development experience using preclinical and clinical systems (including tissue, whole blood, and murine cells).
• Experience with complex in vitro multi-cell assay systems (including tissue organoids, LPMCs and human biopsy explants).
• Detail oriented, highly organized multi-tasker with strong trouble-shooting skills.
• Ph.D. with 1-2 years or B.S. in immunology or related area with at least 5 years of relevant experience is required, preferably in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors.
• Experience with the following molecular biology techniques/platforms is required: DNA/RNA/protein extraction, qPCR, NanoString, RNAseq and ELISA/MSD/Luminex/Singulex.
