Job Description

Summary and Scope:

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, energetic, detail-oriented immunologist with significant experience in assessing human and rodent immune function (both adaptive and innate), preferably related to cancer, autoimmunity, or infection. An interest in gaining a deep and broad understanding of the drug development process is required. The primary roles for the candidate are to characterize mechanisms of action and assess immunological activities of Tempest products to support preclinical and translational development. The candidate will contribute to the design of rodent tumor model studies to monitor immune changes, assess immunological activities in murine and human specimens (whole blood, PBMC), and contribute to translational development activities by monitoring sample testing at CROs and performing data analysis. Experience with common murine tumor model systems is required. Demonstrable hands-on experience with flow cytometry and immunoassay platforms (e.g. ELISA) to assess immune activation in rodent and human biological materials is desired. Experience with or knowledge of other technologies including multiplex protein quantification (Luminex), gene expression platforms (e.g. NanoString) or molecular biology techniques is a plus. S/he/they will support projects from early IND-enabling to Phase I-III studies and will have the opportunity to work in a cross-functional environment. The candidate must be driven, resourceful, and able to work independently. Excellent organizational skills in management of data, reagents and formulating conclusions are essential. Teamwork, collaboration with colleagues across disciplines, and excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical. The position will report to an Executive Director.

Responsibilities: (duties are not limited to the below and may evolve over time and change depending on business needs and individual expertise)

· Apply multiple in-house platform technologies (flow cytometry, ELISA, Luminex, etc.) to enable drug candidate evaluation and identify pharmacodynamic &/or predictive biomarkers

· Design of testing strategy to assess immune activities of Tempest products in rodent tumor models

· Work with team to identify, optimize and qualify biomarker assays for clinical implementation

· Manage receipt, storage and documentation of clinical samples from Tempest-led studies

· Perform independent activities such as review of relevant literature and online research to ensure the highest quality experimentation

· Present data at cross-functional project team meetings

· Plan, execute and troubleshoot experiments to support advancement of projects

· Analyze and interpret data and draw conclusions to help decide next steps

· Accurately document all protocols, experimental data and results in appropriate electronic lab notebooks with accuracy and according to timelines

· Contribute to daily laboratory activities (including procurement of reagents/materials and organization)

Education & Experience:

· PhD in Immunology or related field with strong immunology emphasis

· 0-3 years of post-doctoral experience (academia or industry)

· Experience in working with human biological samples (whole blood, plasma, tissue samples) and culture techniques

· Experience in working with rodent tumor models systems

· Experience working under and writing SOPs is beneficial

· Substantial experience with flow cytometry (BD systems, 12+ colors) and ligand-binding assays is essential

· Knowledge or experience with multiplex protein quantification platforms (e.g. Luminex), gene expression (NanoString), or molecular biology techniques is beneficial

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

● Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills

● Strong organizational and effective time management skills; ability to meet tight deadlines

● Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word), FlowJo or CytoBank, GraphPad PRISM and database software

● Ability to function at a high level in a team setting as an individual contributor

● Sound judgment and critical thinking skills

● Highly detail oriented and meticulous with data

Tempest Guiding Principles:

1. Develop meaningful therapies for patients

2. Value diversity in building teams

3. Commit to growth and collaboration

4. Work with integrity and rigor

5. Embrace the energy that drives a successful biotech

About Tempest Therapeutics:

Tempest Therapeutics is a clinical-stage oncology company advancing small molecules that combine both targeted and immune-mediated mechanisms with the potential to treat a wide range of tumors.

The company’s two novel clinical programs are TPST-1495 and TPST-1120, antagonists of EP2/EP4 and PPARα, respectively. Both TPST-1495 and TPST-1120 are advancing through Phase 1 studies designed to study both agents as monotherapies and in combination with other approved agents.

Tempest is also developing an inhibitor of TREX-1, a double-stranded DNA exonuclease that is designed to control activation of the cGAS/STING pathway, which is an innate immune response pathway that induces the production of IFN-β, a cytokine that is well-established to trigger the development of anti-tumor immunity. Oral delivery of a TREX-1 small molecule inhibitor is intended to selectively activate STING in tumors, leading to anti-tumor immunity.

Tempest is headquartered in Brisbane, CA and supported by notable healthcare investors. It is publicly traded on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol TPST. More information about Tempest can be found on the company’s website at www.tempesttx.com.
