Position Description

UCLA Extension is considered one of the top programs of its kind, offering to more than 35,000 students per year approximately 4,500 classes and non-degree certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of nontraditional students as well as companies and organizations throughout and beyond the Los Angeles region.

Under the direct supervision of the Department Director, the Continuing Educator (CE II) will have primary academic and administrative responsibilities for the development, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of courses, certificates, and programs in the health sciences; healthcare management; nursing; public health, life sciences, physical sciences and mathematics. The CE will develop effective working relationships with UCLA faculty, healthcare industry professionals, and other key stakeholders.

Under the direction of the Director, the incumbent is responsible for the administration of self-supporting cost centers that generate approximately $8 million annually through 9000 enrollments. As a member of the Health Sciences& Sciences senior management team, the CE II will keep abreast of changing industry trends to inform development of innovative courses, certificates, and other continuing education programs.

The incumbent serves as a member of various ad hoc committees and task forces convened at the discretion of the Director and/or the Dean’s Office. The incumbent is expected to demonstrate outstanding leadership, excellent academic and managerial skills, enthusiasm for UCLA Extension’s public service educational mission, and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

• Ability to develop creative continuing education programs within an entrepreneurial framework in response to changing needs and trends in the field of Health Sciences and Sciences.
• Experience in program design, implementation, and evaluation of continuing education and professional development programs in the field of Health Sciences and Sciences.
• Experience in an academic environment.
• Active and positive relationships with the UCLA faculty and department chairs.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills with an ability to relate as peer to faculty, professional associations, and University Extension colleagues. Specific strengths in building partnerships among constituent groups required.
• Experience in developing online curriculum.
• Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in Health Sciences or Sciences.
• Experience in developing, implementing, maintaining, and analyzing educational program assessments
• Experience in report writing, proposal and grant writing
• Knowledge and facility with computers, leading word-processing, and financial management software within an electronic network office environment.
• Ability to work successfully with a highly diverse staff and student population.

Salary range: $68,090 to $120,145
