R&D Protein Purification Scientist

IFF’s Genencor Technology Center in Palo Alto, CA is currently seeking a Scientist with Protein Purification experience to join our Analytical and Biochemistry Team.

Our Palo Alto R&D site is a center of biotechnology excellence including synthetic biology, host engineering, protein engineering, analytical science, and robotics. Our IFF team members in Palo Alto, located at the Genencor Technology & Innovation Center, have been pioneers in industrial enzyme engineering for over 40 years.
We are looking for a dedicated and passionate individual to join our Analytical & Biochemistry team. You will join our Research and Development organization, working with teams on exciting new challenges in industrial enzyme engineering, biomolecule product development, metabolic engineering, idea generation and proof of concept studies, and scale up for manufacturing. You will have the opportunity to purify proteins for a wide range of commercial product applications, including food, health and nutrition, grain processing, and household and personal care. You will also develop new and creative solutions to protein purification challenges. Candidates should have experience with protein purification and characterization.
This R&D opportunity will be based at IFF’s Genencor Technology and Innovation Center in Palo Alto, California. Our Palo Alto site has excellent resources for biomolecular R&D, including 500 MHz NMR, x-ray diffraction, high-resolution mass spectrometers, an advanced robotic high-throughput screening facility, specialized industry applications research facilities, and a pilot plant including food grade capability.

Job Requirements

• BS/MS and academic or industrial experience with protein purification and characterization. Candidates with a PhD may also be considered.
• Experience in protein purification using ion exchange, size exclusion, affinity chromatography and other methods. Experience with FPLC systems, especially AKTA.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with diverse teams and stakeholders. Ability to organize tasks, procedures, documentation, and samples.
• Background in protein science, biochemistry, bioanalytical chemistry, enzymology, or chemical biology.
• Demonstrated hands-on problem solving, attention to detail, and critical thinking.
• Familiarity with modern analytical techniques and instrumentation for the analysis of proteins (e.g. UV/Vis, HPLC, SDS-PAGE, SEC).
