Serve as a research associate on National Institutes of Health (NIH), CDC funded projects to
study innate immune responses, particularly the interferon system, to protect against viral and
non-viral diseases, wastewater surveillance of COVID-19. Assists in laboratory maintenance,
scientific assays and evaluating experimental data. Primary responsibilities will include carrying out laboratory experiments, maintaining the cell cultures, protein expression, participating in laboratory meetings, and participating in supervision of untrained temporary researchers (¢.g., summer students). Cleaning glassware (by dishwasher and by hand), and other lab related maintenance including autoclaving, radioactivity monitoring, ordering supplies, maintaining records, and photocopying. (The technician will also perform other appropriate duties as determined by the PI). Animal maintenance and genotyping will be required as needed. Leads the laboratory experiments, reagent preparation, bacterial and tissue culture, and other related duties as required for the execution and evaluation of experiments. Experience with animal training will be prioritized.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Capacity to work collaboratively with investigators in a multidisciplinary academic setting.
- Knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in animal care and laboratory activities.
- Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office. Experience using advanced Excel functions such as tables, graphs, statistical formulas, and Basic editor is preferred.
- Experience in rodent husbandry or veterinary care is useful, but not required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to lead a project with minimal supervision in an organized fashion.
