Research Associate Ii Jobs

Our client is seeking a motivated Research Associate II with necropsy and histology related experience. The Research Associate II will provide critical laboratory support for all research teams through preclinical animal tissue and sample collection work at the Ohio Genetic Therapies Center of Excellence. The candidate will lead and assist in the coordination of effort across teams and facilitate efficient high quality sample collection and processing.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

• Assists in ordering supplies related to necropsy and histology activities. Receives, labels or stores supplies as needed
• Performs a variety of tissue preservation techniques including liquid nitrogen immersion, fixation, and perfusion procedures
• Performs protocol specific necropsy evaluations of laboratory animals, including but not limited to sample container preparation, harvesting, and weighing of tissues and accurate and timely record keeping
• Assists with tissue embedding, microtomy, slide staining, quality control of tissues, as well as slide/tissue inventory as needed
• Develops a strong working knowledge of balances, scales, centrifuges, profusion equipment, cassette and slide labelers, tissue processors, and other routine laboratory equipment
• Performs tissue trimming according to study protocols and maintains wet tissue storage.
• Train and mentor research staff on necropsy and histology procedures
• Coordinates with and manage necropsies with cross-functional department leads. Coordinates with study directors regarding pre-clinical study workflow
• Responsible for the preparation of pre-clinical and clinical study materials to support Gene Therapy, Gene Editing, and RNA programs

Desired Education and Skills:

• Experience in muscle and nerve tissue handling preferred
• Demonstrated experience managing implementation of research studies under GCP/GLP compliance
• Ensures work is performed to technical expectations and in compliance with GLPs
• Ability of execute sample handling and analysis with strict adherence to laboratory methods and SOPs
• Experience in SOP and method drafting, report generation and knowledge of computerized data entry platforms
• Ability to work extended hours as needed, including but not limited to weekend and holiday coverage, occasionally on short notice
• Experience with animal handling and anatomy
• BS degree in scientific disciple with 3+ years of laboratory experience in the healthcare, biotech/pharmaceutical industry or equivalent
