Position Description

Advertised Job Summary
The Research Associate will plan and conduct a variety of evaluation and research tasks, including instrument development, data collection, analysis, and reporting. The incumbent will possess training and skills in both quantitative and qualitative methods but have advanced skills and experience in quantitative methods. In addition, the Research Associate will assist faculty members in organizing, managing, and developing the work of graduate students and other team members. Summary of job duties:
  • Collects data in a variety of formats, including surveys (both in-person and online), focus groups, interviews, and other applicable data collection methods.
  • Assists the Director and faculty members in organizing and managing the work of graduate students employed as Research Assistants.
  • Contributes to project teams on the design and development of methods used to evaluate programs and conduct research studies.
  • Performs and organizes data analyses including data entry, data management, statistical analysis, and qualitative coding. Conducts both univariate and multivariate analyses, including factor analysis using appropriate statistical analysis software.
  • Communicates with external clients regarding instrument development and data collection activities.
  • Conducts literature reviews and writes evaluation and technical reports to summarize methods and results. Also creates materials for dissemination to non-technical, education audiences.
  • Provides leadership in the development and selection of instruments and tools for analysis of educational data.


Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in a social science field (e.g., education, public health, social work), with training in advanced quantitative methods and at least two years of work experience in research, evaluation, or program planning; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Must have experience using Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants with familiarity and experience with evaluation/research of education initiatives. Preference will also be given to applicants with one or more of the following qualifications: experience with statistical analysis software, such as SPSS, SAS, R, or Mplus; experience with qualitative analysis software; experience with web-based data collection and analysis; experience creating user-friendly graphic displays and visual reports.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Demonstrated ability in data analysis and research methods is required. Requires experience and training in both quantitative and qualitative methods, with experience in advanced quantitative methodologies such as latent variable modeling. Must be detail oriented, organized, and possess the ability to work independently and on teams. Must have willingness to learn new approaches and applications. Requires excellent written and oral communication skills as well as strong interpersonal skills. Strong time management skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks are required.
