Provides legal advice on research matters for the Office of Research and Economic Development (ORED) and sponsored projects, with particular emphasis on intellectual property and technology transfer issues, industry collaborations, conflict of interest, large interinstitutional initiatives, and collaborations. Provides legal advice regarding the impact of federal regulations impacting grants and contracts, research compliance matters, and intellectual property issues to ORED which includes the Office of Intellectual Property, Tech Transfers (IP/TT) and the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) along with other administrative units within the University and serving as project lead attorney for the research aspects of complex transactions among other related duties.
- Provides legal advice to the Office of Research Intergrity (e.g., Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care & Use Committee (ACUC), Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC), and research misconduct committees), and the Research Foundation, as needed.
- Provides legal advice, as needed, on research compliance including but not limited to federal and state laws/regulations (e.g., foreign influence, conflicts of interest), working with ORED and Office of University Compliance and Integrity (Compliance Office), and serving on various Compliance Office task groups and committees.
- Works closely with the University Compliance Office and ORED regarding the impact of non-research University policies on sponsored project administration and assists in the coordination of University policies. Maintains contact with sponsoring agencies and their legal counsel (as needed), ORED, and the Compliance Office and other university units relating to sponsored project administration.
- Work in coordination with ORED leadership on creating and providing training to various stakeholders about research compliance and other research matters and BOT resolutions. Conducts legal research pertaining to research. Oversees the research aspects of the following: public records requests, records retention/destruction, and any litigation involving research.
- Serves as the project lead attorney for the research aspects of complex institutional transactions.
Minimum Qualifications
Law degree (L.L.B. or J.D.) and licensed to practice law with at least ten (10) experience as an attorney. Must be a member of the Florida Bar or become a member within twelve months of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Law degree and licensed to practice law at least (10) years of experience as an attorney with experience in providing legal advice regarding research matters for a higher education institution or comparable experience.
