Common Sense Networks PBC is a kids media and services company that has been incubated by Common Sense Media, the nation's leading independent nonprofit organization devoted to helping kids, teens, and families thrive in a world of media and technology. Every day, millions of families turn to Common Sense for trusted advice and unbiased ratings on media of all types. Embracing the trusted position that Common Sense has with parents, Common Sense Networks creates and curates safe, age-appropriate, and engaging content for kids, teens, and families through various initiatives and partnerships.

Position Overview

  • Are you passionate about digital well-being and helping teens navigate the digital world responsibly?
  • Do you have experience working with teens or creating educational materials that will resonate with them?

If yes, this may be the role for you. We’re seeking a skilled Learning Content Designer with experience in the youth space to support our mission of making safe and age-appropriate media the rule rather than the exception in the industry. Supporting our partnerships with the leading video streaming platforms, this role will primarily focus on developing and delivering resources to educate and empower teenagers to take ownership of their digital lives as well as providing parents and caregivers with tools to support their teens' digital well-being. Additional responsibilities involve creating materials to guide content creators in developing impactful, healthy online video content.

Responsibilities:

  • Create educational materials, including presentations, videos, guides, tip sheets, and interactive modules, to address various aspects of digital well-being for teens.
  • Research and curate relevant information on media literacy, digital content development, online communication, mental health, and other topics related to teens' digital lives.
  • Liaise with external organizations, schools, and community partners to identify collaborative opportunities and leverage their expertise in developing and disseminating resources and hosting events.
  • Develop and support delivery of workshops, webinars, and other online and/or in-person events for teens and families related to healthy digital habits.
  • Ensure all materials align with current industry research, best practices and cultural sensitivities.

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrate and value creativity, curiosity, tenacity, and an ability to connect with others, both internal and external, who come from a wide range of backgrounds and points of view
  • In depth knowledge of issues related to teen digital well-being, including cyberbullying, media literacy, online privacy, mental health, and digital citizenship.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize information from various sources and distill it into digestible takeaways and actionable recommendations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Media Studies, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Desire to work for a mission-driven organization and be true to its values
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner for specific audiences (teens, parents, content creators).
  • Demonstrated experience in developing educational materials or resources for teens and/or parents/caregivers based on instructional design principles and learning theories.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and cultural sensitivity in content creation.
  • Strong knowledge of digital media, online safety, social media platforms, and emerging technologies.
  • Passion for youth empowerment, digital literacy, and promoting healthy digital habits.
  • A self-starter with an ability to collaborate remotely

What We Offer:

  • The chance to join one of the most recognizable and trusted brands in kids’ media.
  • The ability to grow your skill set as part of a team of other talented, friendly, and seasoned professionals.
  • A culture that values belonging, exploration, creativity, tenacity, and vitality.
  • The opportunity to work for a purpose-built company making a difference in the lives of youth and families.

Application Details:

  • Hourly compensation rate based on experience.
  • Please send your resume and cover letter to [email protected] and include your first & last name and the position title in the subject line.
  • This is a year-long full-time Independent Contractor position and is fully remote.
