Job Description

Summary


Save the Children Action Network (“SCAN”) – a 501(c)(4) organization – is the political advocacy arm of Save the Children. We are building bipartisan support to make sure every child has a strong start in life. We’re doing this by advocating for high-quality early learning and ending child hunger in the U.S., the safety of children arriving at the southern U.S. border and educating and protecting kids around the world.


SCAN is looking for a Lead Associate, Student Engagement to be the key organizer of student clubs across the country. Elevating diverse youth voices is a key priority to highlighting the need for policy change and direct programs impacting children in the US and around the world. The Lead Associate, Student Engagement is responsible for engaging high school and college students in the mission of Save the Children (SCUS) and the political advocacy campaigns for Save the Children Action Network (SCAN). You will oversee and support existing SCUS and SCAN school clubs and work to expand club presence to new schools around the country by identifying, engaging, training, and activating students to represent SCUS and SCAN’s fundraising and legislative priorities: expanding access to early childhood development, combating child hunger, ensuring humane treatment of children at our southern border.


What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)


Program Management and Execution (65%)


  • Host trainings and learning opportunities to empower students to be successful in their SCAN activities
  • Identify and recruit students to increase interest and awareness of SCAN and SCUS in key markets
  • Create, implement and review tools and communication that support community engagement, advocacy and fundraising best practices
  • Recruit and manage relationships with new and existing high school and college clubs
  • Create a meaningful journey for students through student clubs and leadership positions
  • Support the planning, goal setting and recruitment process for national events including the Advocacy Summit and election events
  • Set Key Performance Indicators in partnership with other team members across SCAN
  • Sustain strong data management including activity tracking and reporting in EveryAction


Campaigning (20%)


  • Provide goals for campaign engagement for student clubs and Student Ambassadors
  • Support State Managers in SCAN states in engaging students in state legislative campaigns when needed
  • Support the Senior Advisor, National Events in creating student- specific resources for prioritized federal campaigns including toolkits, social media messaging, factsheets, presentation materials and more


Operational Excellence (15%)


  • Provide technical assistance on child safeguarding for the SCAN team
  • Support the development and execution of student-specific training and leadership opportunities in coordination with the Volunteer Leadership and Training team at SCAN
  • Support the development and execution of communication and media strategies to increase program visibility through external communications, presentations and other related activity


Required Qualifications


  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering and maintaining and environment of diversity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Ability to travel up to 10%
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Experience with instructional content development, especially advocacy content
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and ability to educate others on the legislative and electoral process
  • Experience working with diverse groups of volunteers both in online and offline settings.
  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent, plus at least 3 years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and teams at all levels, both internally and externally
  • Experience in youth organizing and engagement campaigns


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience working on state legislative or local campaigns


Compensation


Save the Children Action Network is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:


  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $66,300 – $74,100 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $54,400 – $60,800 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $60,350 – $67,450 base salary


Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location. Employee may be eligible for an incentive program. Save the Children also offers paid vacation, accrued at least 12 days a year, depending on paygrade and length of service, paid safety and wellness leave of at least 1 day per month worked for a full time employee which is pro rata reduced for employees working less than a full time schedule, and at least 10 paid holidays a year. Employees may be eligible for additional bonus compensation.
