Our team is a diverse and nimble group that manages Apple’s workplaces and workplace services. We develop and manage Apple’s global real estate portfolio, lead all related capital construction projects, provide outstanding facilities and site services, develop and lead sustainability initiatives to reduce the environmental impact of all Apple facilities, including commute and renewable energy programs, and do everything we can to ensure the health and safety of all Apple personnel, facilities, and customers in our facilities around the world!

We are seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly motivated design professional with a demonstrated focus in designing outstanding workspaces at the best value to join our team and lead the design of all Apple corporate facilities globally.

Key Qualifications

15+ years of design experience;
Ability to use 2D/3D software, including AutoCAD, 3D Studio MAX, Adobe suite, and multiple rendering packages to communicate concepts;
Experience creating and developing overall design concepts and formulating design; and,
International design experience a plus.
Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management and mentoring skills, in particular with global teams, across time zones, and date lines;
Ability to develop and articulate a strong vision that aligns and inspires your own team and other diverse teams of professionals;
Be a self-starter, self-motivated, and able to work and lead independently, and perform multiple tasks under minimal direction;
Think and implement quickly, laterally, independently or collaboratively;
Demonstrate strong user experience sensibilities with a very high level of curiosity; keep up with the evolving landscape of available tools, technologies and resources;
Stay positive and navigate conflict, high pressure situations, and ambiguity with confidence and a calm, Apple-first, resolution-focused approach;
Extensive presentation skills and strategies with an understanding of design and construction trends;
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills;
Ability to develop collaborative relationships across many multidisciplinary groups;
Strong, persuasive communicator with excellent verbal presentation skills and the ability to communicate sophisticated design concepts; and

Description

The Head of Design is responsible the global architectural design of all corporate workplaces, leading a team of subject matter experts tasked with seamlessly delivering best-in-class workplaces that inspire and enable all Apple team members to do their life’s best work.
The Head of Design will lead a team of architects and design professionals who partner with our development and construction teams to apply aesthetic rigor and instill the values that are synonymous with Apple culture, products, and services to our workplaces. The successful candidate will report to the Vice President, Global Real Estate & Facilities, and will play a meaningful role bridging the work of RE&D with the work of many other teams within Apple, including Industrial Design, HID, Product Design, Apple TV+, Apple Music, Live Events, Corporate Events, and Marketing + Communication.
In collaboration with all teams, the Head of Design will play an integral role in establishing aesthetic consistency where appropriate, crafting new aesthetic language where needed, and continually developing a vision for how Apple can integrate new technologies and ideas to evolve its brand in the future. The successful candidate will work closely and collaboratively with all Apple divisions to develop, communicate, and deliver designs that embody Apple’s brand, core ideals and values, and guide the greater RE&D team and vendors for implementation.
This position will extend over many design fields, including but not limited to campus master planning, architecture, interior design, landscape design, mechanical/electrical/lighting design, event and experience design, industrial design, visual communications, furniture design, production, and more.
In addition to design excellence, we are seeking a leader who is able to quickly grasp and distill highly sophisticated issues and translate them into clean, focused, understandable solutions. We are also seeking a natural collaborator and an extraordinary communicator, that can effectively develop and present design ideas regularly to Apple leadership throughout the company.
Some of the key responsibilities will include:
• Directly coordinate the design of all major projects, and lead and mentor a team of exceptional design professionals who will oversee the design of all other Apple workplaces;
• Maintain and evolve Apple’s design guidelines, constantly innovating to ensure we deliver amazing spaces to encourage and enable Apple team members to do their life’s best work;
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Apple internal teams to determine detailed project requirements for special projects and facilities needs;
• Assist in the selection of design professionals, including architects, engineers and specialty consultants, for facilities projects and other special events and projects;
• Work with specialist teams to develop design mockups, prototyping, production of visual assets and producing documentation required for implementation;
• Partner with project management and both internal and external partners to meet project schedules and budgets;
• Engage and maintain positive working relationships with internal government affairs teams, as well as all applicable local government jurisdictions and departments, to assist with the permitting of all projects; and,
• Partner with Apple internal security, safety, and employee support organizations, such as EH&S, IS&T, Security, People, and AV project managers to ensure our workplaces achieve their goals and objectives.

Education & Experience

BA/BS degree in Design, Architecture, Organizational Design, or related field, or equivalent practical experience (advanced degree in Architecture or Design preferred with a rigorous design education)

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $244,900 and $392,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
