We have an exciting opportunity for a Communications Leader to join U.S. Bank and be an active partner and communications counselor to our senior executives that lead the top businesses for the organization in California. The primary objective for the head of Regional Communications for California is to develop and execute on a customer-centered communications strategy that supports revenue growth, deepens customer loyalty, highlights the bank’s competitive advantages, and engages employees.
This individual will create critical communications within the organization as well as to the communities we serve. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing communications plans in support of U.S. Bank’s consumer and small business banking strategy in the California market, as well as select initiatives from other business lines such as Wealth Management & Investment Services, Corporate & Commercial Banking and Payments, and our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) efforts in the state. He/she will also oversee internal communications responsibilities for the company’s California senior leadership team and will be the communications link between California and the broader U.S. Bank’s Public Affairs & Communications team and the Bank.
The senior regional communications leader will report to the Head of Communications for Consumer & Business Banking (CBB) and regional communications, ensuring consistency by staying closely connected to others with the other regional communication roles across the East, Midwest, and West regions for the bank. He/she will also work closely with the Head of Business Line Communications, the company’s Chief Communications Officer, as well as other senior leaders across the bank. This individual will have two direct reports. They will also oversee the company’s PR firm in California.
The Head of Regional Communications, California plans, manages, and evaluates company-wide communication strategies to ensure effective communication to employees, shareholders, and the community. Works with various business groups and senior management to develop and implement strong communication plans that will assist in meeting company goals and objectives.
Evaluates complex information and strategically determines appropriate method of communication based on topic and company goals.
Edits internal and external publications, writes speeches and provides media support. Oversees communications consulting and community relations projects.
Represents U.S. Bancorp at various community, business, and educational events.
May provide project management for special communication efforts, including acquisitions and divestitures.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Ten or more years of experience in communications activities
  • Two or more years of management experience

  • Proven communication management skills
  • Well-developed organizational and project management skills
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Ability to negotiate and influence internal and external parties
  • Strong research, analysis, and interviewing skills

Responsibilities are laid out across four key areas:
Strategy and Planning
  • Provides project management for special communication efforts, including acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Provides expert communications consultation across the revenue generating lines of business.
  • Evaluates complex information and strategically determines appropriate method of communication based on topic and company goals.
  • Develops regional CBB communications plans that support and align with the overall CBB communications strategy.
  • Works with various business groups and senior management to develop and implement strong communication plans that will assist in meeting company goals and objectives.
  • Serves as a strategic communications lead for California with a focus on external communications in markets across the state in support of the bank’s Consumer & Business Banking (CBB) presence.
  • Cultivate relationships with key corporate and business leaders throughout the organization.
  • Manages and oversees the PR agency in California
  • Plays key role in thought leadership projects with a geographic focus on California
External/Media Relations
  • Edits external publications, writes speeches, as needed.
  • Partners with CBB regional communicator for California region to oversee owned-channel content sourcing and creation for the company blog.
  • Oversee the media strategy for the bank in California with a specific focus on CBB, including executing the positive storytelling in support of the bank’s Enterprise story, including select CSR activities, to enhance the U.S. Bank brand as a preferred provider of financial services.
  • Oversees communications consulting and community relations projects;
  • Provides additional support and resources, such as media coaching, speaking engagements, and expanded storytelling opportunities.
  • Serves as media relations contact for the bank with regional media in California, with support from his/her direct reports.
  • Represents U.S. Bank at various community, business, and educational events.
Internal/Leadership Communications
  • In this position’s capacity as a people leader of the CBB regional communication manager for the CA Region, this role will have internal communications responsibilities aligned responsibilities but not limited to:
  • Leadership communications
  • Oversee owned-channel content sourcing and creation – internal on the company intranet and regional channels such as SharePoint blog and leader communications vehicles like biweekly newsletter
  • Employee engagement efforts for the regional team, in conjunction with the enterprise strategy
People leader
  • Manages two regional communication managers for CA region that is focused on leadership comms, internal and external communications.
This role is hybrid. Team members who are in a hybrid role typically spend three days a week at a U.S. Bank location, while having flexibility on their work location for the other working days.

The salary range reflects figures based on the primary location, which is listed first. The actual range for the role may differ based on the location of the role. In addition to salary, US Bank offers a comprehensive benefits package, including incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase 401k contribution and pension (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). Pay Range: $131,240.00 - $154,400.00 - $169,840.00
